Thank you all so Much for the lovely kind messages. I was a bit hesitant about posting about it.
I think you're all right and I just need to be a bit firmer and leave it upstairs unless he's going to bed. He does love it so so much. You've all made me feel a lot better about it all.

I recently got rid of ds dummy (apart from bed time) when he was 2.5 years, I waited until I really thought he'd understand the concept and it worked. I prepped him for a week or two that soon 'nums' would just be for night time cos only babies have them in the day and it'll damage his teeth.

Then the day before I started I said 'when you wake up in the morning num will be staying in bed and it'll wait there for you until bed time'

He went a long with it really well, voluntarily left it in his bed and only cried for it if he was upset for a few weeks after. (He was obsessed with his dummy by the way). I hope this helps, and I'm here to say maybe wait a little longer until the understanding is better cos sometimes that can help 🥰 don't stress, I thought it was going to be torture and it was no where close to what I imagined!

@sendhelphere thank you. So when he got up, I left it upstairs. He had it for nap and then I took it away and then he's had it for bedtime. He did ask for it once but I distracted him. I hope this continues. He just doesn't have the understanding for me to get rid of it totally yet.

I had mine until I was 5 years old and some woman at Circle K told my Nan I looked stupid with a dummy and bright red lipstick on. Got rid of it that day. I did have bad teeth and required braces but that could have been genetic. Good luck!
