I think my children’s father is on remand, am I able to find out why?

The father of my two daughters who are 13 and 11 is currently on remand and due in court in a few weeks time.

Due to his behaviour, he has no direct contact with the girls and only telephone contact with the youngest once a week and emails occasionally. There have been to phonecalls for 4 weeks now and I received notice that the child maintenance has stopped. When I called them and ask why they said he was exempt but due to gdpr could not tell me why but listed some possible reasons all but one were about being under 17 which he certainly it isn’t. The only option that seemed likely was that he was in prison.

does anyone know if I can find out for sure and I am also concerned about the reason he would be locked up too. I need to protect my daughters and also prepare them if it turns out he is.

thank you

I'm assuming you have no contact with his family, no mutual friends

Is his name distinctive enough to make googling the local news worthwhile? Once someone is charged, the name is made public, and sometimes that makes local news sites

No, I have no contact with his family or friends.

I can’t find anything on google either, yes I think you’re right and on the day I will be able to do a better search.

As his children's legal guardian I'd say you had a legitimate interest under gdpr to know this info. I'd call 111 and ask if they were able to help. You could possibly do under 'Claire's law'?

Sorry not 111 (that's NHS) 101 - the non emergency police line.

Thank you, I asked on the police live chat last nights and they said that yes potentially I could get the info so I’m going to go into the station today
