only read the op, but: when we were in holiday in spain ds (then 6m) fell off the bed onto tiled floor. he was fine.

he is now nearly 3 and falls/climbs out of bed most nights, sometimes i think he's just happier on the floor.

he is perfectly ok. i think this happens to everyone at some point, but i understand why you're upset. go easy on yourself!

bookwormmum · 13/02/2008 23:36

I had my wk-old dd on my lap in my parents conservatory (complete with concreted floor ) when dd somehow managed to move and started to plunge head-first off my lap towards the floor. I managed to catch her literally by the arse of her sleepsuit and stop her from smashing her head in on the floor . I was so shaken, I put her back in her pram and trembled for ages afterwards. This was days after I'd nearly cut one of her little toes off instead of her hospital tag - somehow I'd not realised new-born babies can move and she'd flexed her foot at almost the wrong second.

Guess why I only have one??!

overthehill · 13/02/2008 23:51

My dd (now aged 12) fell off the bed when she was 5 months old, and I've a terrible feeling that I wasn't actually in the room with her at the time - think I might have been downstairs - though I hope my memory is playing tricks!

och, if they are making a lot of noise, the damage aint bad. take comfort from that.

really loud screaming just means theyre royally pissed off, rather than badly hurt (usually!)

you are NOT a bad parent for letting them roll off the bed. either that, or we all are too!

sugarpear · 14/02/2008 07:00

how did he crawl into your bed in the first place?

Frankendooby · 14/02/2008 07:19

Hi bumbly.iT'S HAPPENED TO ME TOO!They can move damn fast .You get get him checked for reassurance but try not to give yourself a hard time about it.Dp looked after ds till he was 16 months old. Then when I took over [first wek]he was running and cut his head on radiator.I felt totally crap.AS others have written...it happens.

bumbly · 14/02/2008 13:05

for me what is traumatising me most is the noise of his skull on floor!

purpleduck · 14/02/2008 13:18

yep, happened to us.

LIZS · 14/02/2008 13:23

Your memory of it will fade , dd bumped her head down at least 5 steps of marble stairs echoing around the hallway...

benfmsmum · 14/02/2008 13:25

My lo fell from my bed one morning at 16months and broke his arm - he hadn't even started to walk at that time!! I know how you feel!!

benfmsmum · 14/02/2008 13:33

I have to add that it didn't bother ds though - he just learnt to hop along like a frog instead of crawling!!

Jojay · 14/02/2008 13:39

Mine fell of a sofa and a bed before reaching one, not to mention numerous clonked heads etc while learning to walk and run.

It's all part of the learning process I reckon, but if he's still not himself to day, get him checked out.

georgedontdothat · 14/02/2008 13:41

I sat on my baby once and put a washing basket on her I just kept forgetting she was there

Don't worry nearly all babies fall from a bed or sofa at some point .

BirdyArms · 14/02/2008 13:43

ds2 fell off friends double bed onto their floor at around 4 months - really didn't think he could roll and dh put him there for a sleep whilst we had lunch. he was going through a phase of really screaming when he was put down to sleep so we left him to cry for 5 minutes. Felt absolutely dreadful when I found him lying on their floor screaming. Makes me very sad to think about it even 6 months later. He was fine though. So you are not the worst mother in the world, I am.

PortAndLemon · 14/02/2008 15:01

My mother's first cousin rolled off a changing table and OUT OF A FIRST FLOOR WINDOW (similar story, she'd never rolled over before and her mother had gone to the other side of the room to pick something up), hitting the lean-to roof of the room below before rolling down it and then off the edge of that to the ground. She was fine (not that I am advocating dropping babies out of first floor windows, mind you; I'm reasonably sure that it's not recommended by the latest childcare advice).

PortAndLemon · 14/02/2008 15:03

Mind you, I think george deserves an Honourable Mention for sitting on her DD...

georgedontdothat · 14/02/2008 15:06

Yes she was only 2 weeks old too

at baby rolling out of window

NorthernLurker · 14/02/2008 15:12

Baby rolling out of a window - brilliant story though!
(NL nervously makes sure all windows are triple locked!)

Just thinking the same think Lapin - only I am ROFL-ing
I also laugh whenever my DC's vomit. This is terrible - they are teenagers now and quite used to it. Healthy in spite of falls off bed and insane mother.

BirdyArms · 14/02/2008 16:55

PortandLemon - your mother's aunt can happily have my crown!

empen · 14/02/2008 17:14

I have never told anyone this before but I was once putting the shopping in the car at Tescos and had put dd in the back of the car in her seat. Put the trolley back and started to drive. Only when I drove round the sharp corner and over the flyover did I notice that I had not strapped in the seat and the seat was upside down rolling across the back seat.

She was fast asleep and knew nothing of it but I was so ashamed about what a terrible mother I was. She is 6 now and I am still cringing. At least now I always double check the kids are fastened! it could have been so much worse

charchargabor · 15/02/2008 00:00

Hi, I'm new! The other morning, I woke up and DD Zora wasn't next to me in bed where she normally is. I thought she must have wriggled under the duvet, so I tried to kick it off. Next minute, thunk! and she started screaming. Turns out she had wriggled to the end of the bed and I kicked her off! Luckily she was fine, but I cried my eyes out! So don't worry!

Emprexia · 15/02/2008 00:26

Definitely NOT alone.. my DS launched himself off the bed at me just after he learned to sit up and landed face down spread eagled.

He's also wriggled off in the middle of the night while co-sleeping.

None the worse for wear other than scaring both me and DH to death.

hotchocscot · 15/02/2008 00:49

will have to join littlelapin in hell for chortling at the stories. i had been reading ds a story in bed (he was about 6/7 months i think) he was all propped with safety pillows round him, i moved about two feet away to put Slinky Malinki back on the chest of drawers and thunk! he was on the carpet. much screaming from him and yelling from dh who came haring through from the living room and stood berating my mothering skills while i sobbed into ds hair and frantically checked him for spinal damage. Rang NHS 24 who were great, very calm and reassuring. as my mother said, they do bounce or the human race would have died out eons ago.
