What could be causing this rash on my baby's face??

See pics below, all from within the last week. He's 7m old, formula fed, has CMPA so is on prescription formula for it

Seems to randomly appear aa far as I can figure out, last couple days has been there most of the time but occasionally flares up and gets more red.

Feels smooth to the touch. At first I thought that it was because I was cleaning his face too much with baby wipes (after he gets food all over it!) so I switched so warm water and a cloth couple of days ago, hasn't made any difference. I thought it was possibly something acidic in his baby food when it gets on his face but has appeared twice today no where near his breakfast and lunch time so can't be that. we have cats so thought could be an allergy but it's only on his face /neck, no where else on his body. Any ideas??

Does he have a dummy? Is he teething?

sunseaandme · 02/04/2023 15:56

@Dinosaursdontgrowontrees he does have a dummy , uses it for naps and a little during day but isn't in his mouth constantly or anything. Not sure if he's teething, hard to say , no teeth yet but he certainly has been dribbling a lot lately

Is he teething? Or drooling excessively? Most babies get that kind of rash at this time. Use plain water and a soft cloth.

Mine had a rash like this for months - it was dribbling from teething. Try to pat it dry gently periodically, but otherwise we didn't worry about it too much. It didn't look great, but it didn't seem to bother here!

Dustyblue · 02/04/2023 16:05

Mine had something similar at that age. It looks like some kind of irritant doesn't it? Is it sore/ is he whingy about it?

I was going to say heat rash, but he'd have it elsewhere if that were the case.

DS's version cleared up on its own. It came and went, and then just went.

You sound like a nice Mum, hang in there :)

That looks like wet eczema to me. Caused by lots of dribble. Don't use plastic backed bibs and dry it as often as you can.

BertieBotts · 02/04/2023 16:09

Yes I agree that it's dribble related.

You could try using a winter balm on his face to protect the skin, Weleda make one and probably some other companies too. It's designed to provide a barrier, as dribble plus cold winter air can cause this kind of rash.

BertieBotts · 02/04/2023 16:10

Also swap dummies out regularly and keep them clean/sterilised.

Youngatheart123 · 02/04/2023 16:25

Many years ago DS had eczema and this looks a bit like it. You may also see it in the bends of elbows and knees as well as other areas of the body. The GP suggested I stopped giving him dairy products but looking back I think tomatoes were a big trigger. You may find the pharmacy can give you some cream but if it persists go to the GP. DS had eczema until around 3 and then it cleared. I think some children are just more likely to get eczema.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 02/04/2023 16:43

It looks like the rash my little one used to get if she was teething. Extra dribble plus dummy. Try Vaseline to protect the skin from the moisture.

mathanxiety · 02/04/2023 17:22

Put Aquaphor ointment on it.

sheeeeeeshh · 03/04/2023 09:15

Teething.
