Potty for boys

We have a little potty at the moment but the little splash guard isn't big enough so he spraying everywhere and honestly it's putting him off.

Looking for recommendations for potty for boys with this in mind.

If you’re short of time, here’s a quick summary of some great potty recommendations from this thread and elsewhere on Mumsnet:

BabyBjörn Potty Chair
BabyBjörn Smart Potty
Boots Baby Potty - Blue

Many Mumsnetters recommend the OP goes straight to a toilet seat, here are some we like:
IKEA Tossig Toilet Seat
Potette Plus 2-in-1 folding potty seat
VinsaniWhite Family Toilet Seat with Built-in Child Seat

For a deeper dive into the different types of potties and toilet seats as tried, tested and recommended by Mumsnet, check out our guide to the best potties. We hope this is helpful! Flowers

U could get him a step for the big toilet and see if that helps saves having to clean carpets

He isn't big enough for that whole hold and aim thing just yet. That was original plan lol

It would make more sense to use a toilet seat on the toilet instead of getting another potty.

Does he hold/point his willy downwards when he is on the potty? That is what we taught ds and he never had any problems splashing.

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 01/04/2023 14:58

I tell DS to scoot back on his potty so his Willy is a couple of inches away from the guard. It points down and all goes in.

MintLampShade · 01/04/2023 15:03

We just use a toddler toilet seat over the actual toilet rather than a potty and no issues. When out and about and using a travel potty however (virtually no splash guard), we just taught little man to gently hold his little willy downwards (with fingers) to avoid splashing. Could you try either of those?

Yellowrosesblue · 01/04/2023 15:06

We use the Baby Bjorne potty chair.it has a high pee guard good for boys.

SMaCM · 01/04/2023 17:20

Turn the potty round. They have a higher back which is better for boys.

OnNaturesCourse · 01/04/2023 20:43

@Yellowrosesblue thanks. I'll look into that.

I'd rather have a potty so I'm not running him up to the toliet and he has easy access.

He does push it down when he sits on the potty but as soon as he pees its like a little hose and he ends up splashing. Sometimes a lot, sometimes only a bit.

He won't hold it down when peeing. He let's go as soon as the pee comes!

That's pretty crucial, maybe he's not ready?

Cherrybl0ssm · 01/04/2023 21:02

What about peeing into a bottle standing up? This was my go to when out and about when potty training my two DS.
Willie goes into the bottle - we just used an old water bottle - one of the larger ones. Then tip it away. Also teaches peeing standing up. Then transition to aiming at a ping pong ball in the toilet with a dot on it in permanent marker.

He's ready in the sense he wants to use it and says when he needs a pee/wants the potty.

Brilliant idea with the bottle trick!
