3 Year Old's Stuffy Nose - nothing working!

Hi, looking for advice from all you resourceful parents put there 🙏🏻

My 3 year old has been having a stuffy nose for about a month now. We've tried everything from nasal/saline sprays (they've never worked for me either, Sterimar just makes my nose COMPLETELY blocked, nevermind stuffy), dehumidifiers, vapour rubs, blowing his nose, vicks in hot water, even the Calpol vapour plug.

They may work for a bit, but his stuffy nose still persists. He breathes loudly sometimes as his nose is blocked, coughs sometimes and has even gotten sick from all the mucus buildup. I give him honey + warm water during the day too.

Is there any other methods I can try, or does it warrant a visit to the GP?

Also adding that it's the night time/sleeping that we struggle with. Couldn't edit my post for some reason!

My 8 year old has this. Needed to have adenoids removed (twice) and tonsils. Has been better since tonsil removal but still snotty.

Try raising the head of his mattress a bit to see if it helps and make sure he knows how to blow his nose. Warm showers are helpful here.

Personally I'd say yes to GP so he can check his nose and tonsils etc.

However I would avoid using the hayfever-type meds GP might give him to dry his nose up. I used them with mine and found it messed with his sleep and made him very clingy and irritable.

My DC's is generally worse over the winter when bugs are about and heating is on as it dries his nose up.

@cheeseandketchupsandwich thank you, I think I'll call our Health Visitor on Monday and tell her about his symptoms, see if she thinks it warrants a trip to the GP (we're lucky we got assigned a great health visitor). ❤️ I don't drive so I'll need to rely on my husband to drive us to the GP if needed.

@miraveille that's what I was thinking it might be. Will phone his Health Visitor on Monday 😊

Antihistamine?

KrystleA · 01/04/2023 14:22

@MistyFrequencies he's taking Cetrizine for his eczema, does that count? 😅
