Hello,

We are going on a family holiday to Spain in June, DD will be 10 months. It'll be our first time abroad with her so just looking for tips and advice, things to pack etc.

Thank you 😊

I’ve not done a hot holiday yet with my 11 month old but we did France in October when she was 6 months (driving + Eurotunnel… oh the joys!).

Off the top of my head I’d say:

  • Travel cot unless your hotel has one (and you’d have to trust its quality / cleanliness)
  • Sheet(s) for cot
  • Portable blackout blinds
  • White noise machine if you use it
  • Baby monitor & charger (if you have a balcony you can sit out there and chill hopefully!)
  • Baby sunscreen & hat
  • Lightweight stroller
  • Multiple sippy cups in case you lose one
  • If you use dummies, take 19,000 of their favourite brand!
  • Full sunsuit for baby (like the neoprene swimsuit things - covers UV rays the best)
  • Packets of snacks you know your baby definitely likes
  • Toys
  • If she’s BF or FF, give her a feed during plane take-off to help with the popped ears
  • Stroller sunshade of some description
  • Picnic blanket so they can crawl on beach if the sand is too hot

Phew! That’s a bit of a list… Just stuff I’ve thought of or seen on other comments. Enjoy your hols! 😄

At that age, we packed:

Pack of nappies
Pack of wipes
Calpol
Feeding equipment
A few small toys to entertain (but not many, everything is a toy at that age!)
Sling
Changes of clothes
Hat and sun cream
Dummies
Pushchair

Everything you need for a baby is sold in Spain so if you run out of nappies, loose a sippy cup etc you can pick up more out there.

We took our DD to spain at 9 m!
Moonseas is a bit OTT for me. We packed more like rosesofamsterdam.

All would add is

  • swim nappies
  • we did a boots click and collect at airport (after security checks) with calpol, 4 bottles of ready made formula (for flight out and return) and a small amount of snacks.

We booked earliest slots at restaurants or went to all day places and just had mains meaning we could get back for bedtime. All restaurant/shop /hotel staff were amazing with our dd and our friends dd (same age) even 20 something male waiters were totally lovely.
It made me realise how much brits hate children / spaniards love them.

See if you can take your pram right to the gate and then transfer your baby into a sling for getting on/off the plane. It’s so much easier when you’re not physically carrying the baby in your arms, especially if you don’t get the pram back until baggage reclaim.
Send your other half on the plane first with the bags and you board last with baby if possible. It means you’re not on the plane for any longer than needs be as that tends to be the point when baby gets fractious.
If your baby is FF take more than you need for the flight in case you’re delayed. Same with nappies and spare clothes (for you and baby).
Make sure you’ve already tried the suncream you take before you go in case of any allergies.
And enjoy. From experience it’s infinitely easier at 10 months than it is for the next few years!

Don't go

If she’s bottle fed, I definitely recommend the Milton cold water sterilising unit and their sterilising tablets. The unit fits about 5 bottles in.
Tommy Tippee portable blackout blind with suction cups
Zoggs baby swim seat

We went to Dubai with our son at that age.

If bottle feeding, boots do sterilising bags which are great. They take up no room in the case, use cold water and just hang from a door handle / coat hanger. Great for travel.

Swim nappies and a neoprene swim nappy are a must.

Take snacks and new toys for the plane. Mine wasn't on the move at that age so happily sat on my lap / in his sky cot with a toy for a bit.

If breastfeeding, feed during take off and landing.

We got an extender for our pushchair hood so he had more shade when in it.

Use a sling to get on and off the plane. Just in case your pushchair isn't at the gate when you get off.

I actually found it quite easy taking him away. We had lots of fun. I did the flight out by myself and it was fine.

I travelled a lot with mine, I had an umbrella stroller which ba always let us bring on board, I brought enough things for 1st 24 hours and bought when I got there. We coslept anyway so no bed required but we took car seats always, once they turned 2 I took the seats onto the plane and strapped them in. Little toys they can fiddle with and books to keep them quiet. We flew long haul (expats) and they usually slept most of the flight.

She doesn’t have to pack my full list! I was just naming things off the top of my head 😂

We went to Tenerife in Nov when our little one was 9 months old. Most useful things we needed / used:

  • shed load of snacks for the plane
  • click and collect airside at Boots for snacks and baby food if needed
  • nuby rapid cool flasks to make fresh bottle on plane and at resort
  • swim nappies (ordered these boots collect airside)
  • lightweight foldable buggy only have to hand in as board plane but you don't get it back until luggage carousel at the other end....
  • baby carrier for going through passport control
  • collapsible bucket (Amazon) and Milton sterilising tabs
  • snooze shade for pram and rockit... he had so many naps in this daytime and evening in quiet corners whilst we had a relax
  • child's farms sunscreen... doesn't go all yellow and put weird stains on all their clothes
  • where we went there was a website to rent baby equipment from travel4baby can get all sorts on their but we found a baby Walker for the room a good choice... tiled floors with a newly moving about baby we were on edge so the Walker allowed him to burn off a bit of energy without whacking his head.
  • travel wash for bibs and stuff that gets stained
  • some people in our resort whose babies weren't crawling off got small inflatable boat sort of things which they used as a play pen pool side under and umbrella to contain their baby
  • plastic drawstring bags to organise all babies packing. I put entire outfits rolled up together. All bath time stuff in one, jamas and bedding and nappies etc. as storage in room can be a bit limited it made it easier to find his stuff when getting him ready for the day or night time xx

Have a lovely time xx

Hi all! Thank you so much, since posting I have managed to get a fold up umbrella stroller, snooze shade, sterilising bags and some uv suits so getting there!

Just wondering what people's suggestions would be for daytime clothing when she's not in the pool, are the all in one cotton rompers easiest or shorts and t shirts?

Also what kind of toys did you take?

Thanks again!

Ah fab, we didn't travel at that age but we did at 7 and 12 months and both were great ages.

I always recommend a stroller fan for hot weather holidays, it's just great to have for those hot days when you're worried about overheating. When we're sitting outside restaurants or wherever I take it off the stroller and put in on the table having towards baby and myself so it cools me down too!

At the baby stage I always did long light layers. Once we hit the toddler years I relaxed a bit and started doing shorts and t-shirts with plenty sunscreen and seeking shade where possible.
