From what age did you start giving your children Easter eggs/chocolate at Easter?

My 1 year old is getting some little choc buttons

BeaKind · 31/03/2023 20:00

I’ve bought my 2 year old a very small one but now having second thoughts as he never has chocolate and I don’t want to start something 😬

kirsty2023 · 31/03/2023 20:14

I wouldn't worry it's not going to harm little one a bit of chocolate egg or try some chocolate buttons and give a few my 3 year old is only getting one egg and some craft stuff as not to keen on it

DD had some from about 18 months, only very small amounts. She is 3.5 now and still eating some choc from last Easter, we don’t buy her any but she had some from family and likes doing the egg hunt.
We eat most of it for her when she is in bed to save her from herself, I’m selfless like that.

When they're old enough to understand what Easter is and feel left out that they don't have a chocolate egg. Absolutely no need before that.

Actual age will differ, subsequent children will always be switched on to it earlier than first children, for example.

It's a chocolate egg it's not the end of the world

Which part of my comment made you think I thought chocolate eggs where the end of the world? Genuinely puzzled given I said as soon as they ask for one they can have one!!

DappledThings · 01/04/2023 13:35

Still don't. Grandparents get them one, DD's godmother sends one each as well and they get little bits from school. If they didn't get these we would have started about 3 probably but with the ones they do get we don't need to to top them up.

HAF1119 · 01/04/2023 13:40

Our child is just coming up for 4 and we haven't got him one so far but he's been on egg hunts (toddler group, nursery, pre school) and had some little ones from them since he was just before 2.

He's not that bothered for them which helps, I do do some craft things with him and an egg hunt which is plastic eggs with toys in (same ones each year so far and he's not remembered, won't get away with that forever!)

mynameiscalypso · 01/04/2023 13:40

I've bought DS an Easter egg since his first Easter (c. 8 months). He's not bothered by chocolate so I eat it myself. Works well for everyone!

gogohmm · 01/04/2023 13:41

Lived oversea where Easter eggs aren't a tradition but allowed my parents to se d an egg each (smallest sized buttons egg) from a year

gogohmm · 01/04/2023 13:43

By the way, egg not eggs - one per giver max at least

Whyarepeoplesoweird · 30/03/2024 22:49

2 years old. His first bit of chocolate was a small Thomas the tank engine easter egg......and every year after that he's had eggs. They are only young once.

This is my exact thoughts. My 2 year old has one of those little £1.50 ones with chocolate buttons inside, because he will definitely notice his 6 year old brother eating chocolate. I didn’t bother when my eldest was 2, because he didn’t know they existed.

MissMarchple · 30/03/2024 23:05

We bought my son a little bit of chocolate for his first Easter when he was about 4 months old. He didn't eat it but I enjoyed doing it anyway!

Every Easter since then he's had egg hunts and we give him a selection of chocolate and eggs.

He loves chocolate and sweets but all part of a balanced diet - luckily he isn't whiny, if he's told 'not now' to a request he just carries on with his day!

I'm quite indulgent and not really of an uptight 'no need!' attitude.

Bunny2006 · 31/03/2024 06:07

This thread is from last year, but my baby is 14 months and not had chocolate yet, but she has some Easter books and I printed off some Peter rabbit pictures she'll enjoy pointing at and spotting. So doesn't have to be a chocolate egg, when she's older she can chose a little chocolate egg or a book/small toy something like a bubble wand

Last year when she was only 3 months we also got her a book

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 31/03/2024 16:12

we hid plastic eggs and he loved finding them and has spent all day playing with them .

Start something?

Restricting food is starting something.

It's a fucking Easter egg, not crack cocaine.

Fivebyfive2 · 31/03/2024 18:24

My son was 2.5 when he had his first egg. He's 4.5 now we've got loads (between me, DH and ds) from family, egg hunts, friends etc. But he's really good, he shares without prompting, doesn't tantrum if I say no chocolate at the moment/let's wait till after lunch or whatever. Although he will immediately announce "remember you said after breakfast I could have some egg" 🤣

He's had some of his smarties egg for pudding tonight, shared with us and said he'd put some back for tomorrow because he's full.

hottchocolate · 31/03/2024 18:26

From their first Easter but it's personal preference - do what suits you OP

crostini · 31/03/2024 18:48

First Easter so 7 months

NameChange30 · 31/03/2024 19:03

I think when DC1 was 2, we did a hunt in the garden for plastic eggs, they had a small amount of chocolate inside and some stickers IIRC. The following year he was 3 and it was lockdown - we definitely gave him an egg because I have a photo of him eating it and grinning, with a bad haircut and chocolate all round his mouth Grin

I can't actually remember when we started giving DC2 chocolate at Easter but probably a small amount age 1.5, because DC1 had chocolate and 1.5 is old enough to want what older sibling has!

climbershell · 31/03/2024 22:32

My oldest is 2 and a bit. We decorated polystyrene eggs together and used them for an egg hunt, which she loved. Then exchanged them for some Easter stickers no chocolate, she spent hours putting the static stickers on and off our bifold doors and kitchen cupboards. She had a tiny bit of partners chocolate egg. Certainly doesn't need her own egg yet!

BeaKind · 05/04/2024 19:59

Jesus @ShittingPeugeot calm down! You don’t know what I put in my Easter eggs! 🫠
