Teething or ear infection?

My DD (9 months) is touching her ears a lot and is a bit irritable today. I have read the ear touching thing can be a sign of teething so put it down to that as she has been showing other teething signs (drooling, chewing on stuff) and we are expecting her first top teeth soon. I was also wonderimg if I could be missing an ear infection? How would I know the difference? We are travelling outside the UK over Easter so would want to get an ear infection treated (if needed) sooner rather than later.

My baby is same age and going through the exact same symptoms teething does effect the ears if her cheeks are rosey red that’s usually a sign of teething

Any temperature? Ear infection usually with high temperature. My baby had temperature and was touching her ears and I was sure it was teething. Only when discharge came out of her ear I realised it was earinfection. She had to be on antibiotics but it moved to the other ear so it became a long issue, with more appoitements, more antibiotics...Now a month later she is still in some pain as -according to the gp- her ears are still red inside but thankfully no holes on the eardrums anymore.
I would book an appointment with a gp ASAP. Better to be checked out early in my opinion, especially if you are going on a trip over Easter.

My DD always struggles to lie down with an ear infection so one of our first signs is her getting really upset during the night (usually sleeps well). Then she'd get a high temperature. I agree with a PP, worth getting checked out though.

Ear infections can be unbearably painful so hopefully it won't turn into that

I'd visit a pharmacist here to see what you can prepare to take

You can get antibiotic ear drops (even use eye ones) but no idea if it's suitable for baby so again check with pharmacist

Make sure you have adequate travel insurance
