15 month old always vomiting

Hey guys,
I am feeling very emotional, drained and confused
I am a first time mom to a 15 month old. He is constantly vomiting after every meal. Mealtime is horrendous. His always kicking up a fuss when eating.
My biggest issue is that once I've fed him a meal after 10minutes to 1 hour he will always vomit. It's been very rare that he hasn't vomited after any meal. I'm just fed up.
I've had countless visit to the doctors regarding this. They just told me to go my health visitor. The health visitor checked up on him and wasn't really concerned as he wasn't falling the percentile?! (Also a side note he doesn't like drinking milk at all. I have to feed him with a 20ml syringe for him just to have some milk). So we haven't seen the health visitor. I then when back to the GP and because the health visitor wasn't concerned neither was the GP

I'm sure it's not normal that my son should be vomited after every meal. I have literally fed my son at 7pm and at 9:00pm has vomited his entire meal?
Also he does suffer from chronic constipation as he is on Movicol for this. I am not sure if this relates to my above query but I just want to tell you all factors that may or may not contribute

Please can someone help me or just offer me some guidance to a mom that is struggling and is feeling very hopeless.

Does he drink water or juice? I would go back to the GP and insist on a referral to hospital as that doesn't sound normal. Must be really difficult.

WhatWhereWhenHowWhy · 30/03/2023 21:43

I would continue to push this at the GP. It sound distressing.

Have you kept a food diary? To see if it's more vomit on any certain day.

Is it certain textures or types of food?

An allergy? My DD had allergies and used to vomit until we discovered her many allergies

BanoffeeBoat · 30/03/2023 21:49

That's definitely not normal OP. I'm surprised the GP and HV have suggested it is. If I were you I would keep a food diary as suggested above, and see whether there are any particular triggers. Also worth taking photos of a couple of the vomits so that you can show the GP how much is coming up.

Is it cow's milk you're giving in the syringe? Possibly worth trying a non-dairy milk - could it be he's lactose intolerant/ CMPA and he's resistant to the milk because it makes his stomach uncomfortable?

Is there any coeliac or other auto-immune disease in the family?

I don’t have any advice for you OP, but what you’ve described doesn’t sound normal at all! I’m so sorry for you and your boy. Can you ask the GP for a referral to a paediatrician? If it was me I would keep going back to the GP until I was satisfied that it was being properly investigated. It sounds absolutely awful, I really hope you find a way forwards soon.

He loves his water and squash
I give him a lot of water throughout the day but any type of milk is a no go for him. I have to syringe feed him atleast an ounce or 2.

I haven't kept a food diary but this is what I will do straying from Monday. It's honestly so hard seeing him vomit after all my hard work in feeding him.

His 15 months and can't tolerate many textures. I give him his Weetabix in the morning for example but I would need to sieve the food through and then feed him. He starts gagging and then vomits. Any weird textures he won't eat. He will go red in the face and will completely refuse. I have been trying continuously for months now and we are still the same with food.
I will give him a 1 fries. He will eat half and throw the other half on the floor

There's no celiac in my immediate family however I do have a cousin who is suffers from celiac and crohns.
I will try the lactose intolerant milk. Thanks xx

I think there's a whole host of things probably going on here and I say this as a mum of two refluxers who both went on to have multiple intolerances and/or allergies.

Firstly, unless your DS has had a bug, lactose intolerance is unlikely. It is more likely to be a cows milk protein issue. (The protein, not the sugar in milk causing an issue.) Instead of buying a lactose-free milk, buy a dairy-free one.

Secondly, if you are still having difficulties with solid food by this age, I would be seeking a referral to a) a dietician and b) a specialist speech and language therapist who deals in sucking and swallowing/food aversion.

If you've got Coeliac disease in the family and ongoing gut and bowel issues in your DS, a simple blood test will help rule this out. Don't take any gluten out of the diet before having the test or the outcome will be affected.

Was your DS always sick after food? Was he refluxy as a baby? My youngest DS was sick 20 times a day until 14 months and I thought it would never end. He was medicated, but never very successfully. He was massive though, despite this! My eldest was a silent refluxer who lost a lot of weight and always struggled with milk. He is finally outgrowing his allergies during puberty, but most outgrow them earlier. (It's been a very long journey with both and we have Movicol here too for bowels.)

I would ask to see a different GP. (Maybe feed your DS in the waiting room so he is actually sick in front of the GP!!) They obviously aren't taking this seriously, but once kids develop food aversions, it can be really difficult to manage. Refuse to leave without the referrals I've mentioned. Take a partner or parent for support and cry if you have to. Maybe video it beforehand? (I got help when I finally took ds1 to the HV clinic in time for a feed. He screamed the place down for an hour while I battled to feed him and they witnessed how bad it was.)

If it is likely to be reflux, some anti-reflux meds will help in the first instance, but that in itself isn't enough here.

Good luck!

Having just read another thread, have you checked the size of his tonsils?

whoami24601 · 31/03/2023 01:03

Hi OP this sounds really like my DS. When he was around 10 months he started gagging and vomiting during/ after every single meal. We went to the doctors and they diagnosed reflux but it was so bad that he eventually stopped eating pretty much altogether! I never force fed him and honestly forgot the nutrition and just tried to get calories in him - he'd have biscuits for breakfast etc etc. Slowly he improved and now he eats more than me! He's often the one finishing his siblings portions and then asking for seconds!

That's sounds so reassuring!
Thank you for your message
Hopefully my son will be at that stage. Right now it's so tough!!!

Countless time he has been to the gp with tonsillitis and has been on antibiotics for this
