Short Term Full-Time Live-In Childcare Options

Hi all,

I wondered if anyone has any experience of short-term live in childcare, or any advice on how to find some. Basically my partner is unexpectedly going to need to be away from home for c. 6 weeks when our newborn baby will be around 3 weeks old. Unfortunately the timing means none of our family or friends who might have been able to help will be available to help with the baby or our two year old. I will need live-in childcare support for that period but no idea how to go about finding someone. It would need to be a proper nanny I think rather than an au pair as I will need someone to help with night waking and work full-time hours.

Any suggestions on how others have managed this kind if situation and/or a good source of short-term nannies?

Sounds like it would be worth trying to find someone through a nanny agency.

Just in case it helps, I had my second child in lockdown so no chance of support and my DH works unbelievable hours so can’t offer much practical support. I also had a 2yo.

The baby basically slept all day, waking to feed, till 4 months. (Partied through the night too of course). But it was much easier than I thought. It might be that you could get by with daily support, but not live in? Try an agency and see how you get on.

If you want 24 hour care for the baby then you probably need a maternity nurse - they won't generally do a lot with the older sibling though.

A doula might be a good option. Ask around for recommendations or use agencies.
