9 year old bed time

Just wanted thoughts on when a nine year old should go to bed?
DD is the youngest of three, with two teenage brothers. Obviously they stay up a lot later that her, but she is very tired in the mornings.
We aim to get her to bed by 8.30 but often it's later and she does come back down a lot.
She doesn't have to get up till after 7 but is very slow moving and grumpy in the mornings!

My 8.5 yr old is firm lights out 8.30pm. Sometimes when he’s clearly tired we do lights out 8pm. He will usually read in bed before actually going to sleep so some nice wind down time.

I have a 9yo and she goes to bed a lot later than her elder sibling did at that age!
We aim for 8.30. In reality, she's in bed, lights off by 8.45-9 (usually 9 if I'm honest) but she rarely gets up (except when sibling keeps her awake by shouting on games console) and I wake her up about 7.20
Weekends it's up to around 10, but she then lies in til around 8.30

Oh mine is also v grumpy when tired, as am I, and will usually admit she needs an earlier night, unless I've not caught it early enough and she ends up tearful and wailing as she's so tired (but then won't go to bed)

DD is 9. She's our eldest.

Her brother (4) goes up with one of us at 7:20, brushes his teeth, into bed for stories etc.

DD stays downstairs with the other parent, and does something like drawing/colouring, or a calm game on her tablet, whilst we read a couple of chapters of a book to her. She then goes upstairs at 8ish, into PJs and brushes her teeth, usually done by 8:10 or so. She's allowed to read her own book in bed until about 8:30, absolute latest 8:45.

They both wake up between 7-7:30 every day, no matter what.

my dd is 9 and goes up at 8pm weekdays 8.30 weekends , normally asleep within half an hour and up at 7

We start bedtime routine at 8 for my 7 and 10 year old. I let my eldest read until I've sorted the youngest out with a story etc. I then read to him for 10 mins. I always give him the option to read to himself after but he always wants the light off and falls asleep straight away. He's then naturally wakes up at 6am. My youngest is quite often still awake at 10 when I'm about to have a bath and he has to be woken up every morning!

Upstairs at 8pm, lights out at 9 during the week. A bit later at weekends.

DD now 14 is our youngest, she also went to bed much later than her DBs at age 9 think it was nearer 9pm. She did always get up fine in am though

My 9yo needs a lot of sleep. Goes up at 7pm, snoring away by 7.30 and awake around 6.30/7am. I have always needed a lot of sleep too, so think it’s in their blood.

7pm?! Gosh mine sometimes isn't even home by then!

DD just turned 10, we watch tv together til about 8 then we both go up (I’m very much a morning person, and prefer to listen to radio in bed).

Shes almost always asleep after me, she’s a definite night owl.

Bibbitybobbityboot · 29/03/2023 16:09

My 8.5 year old is (in theory) in bed at 8, lights out at 8.30. In reality it is often a bit later but she is normally asleep by 9 unless it is a bad night.

Sandysandwich · 29/03/2023 16:48

Goes up at 9 and will be asleep by 20 past on school days to be up at 7:30.
Weekends go down for about 10, and he wakes on his own about 8

skgnome · 29/03/2023 16:52

DD is a bit older, but I’m pretty sure when she was 9 we aimed for her to be in bed, lights off by 9:30 - waking around 7:30
with brownies/cubs some days she was not back until close to 9pm…

Thanks all! Very helpful. I know there's a lot of neurological and physical growth at the moment which also effects her emotions. Being wound up by her biggest brother who's about to sit his exams doesn't help!
