Baby Day time sleeping - help

Gigi89x · 29/03/2023 11:53

I have a 6 week old baby, we have a downstairs crib which is where he naps during the day.

If i put him upstairs to sleep in his bedtime crib during the day, will this cause him to be confused between day and night time?

I was thinking it was handy upstairs as i have the baby monitor up there so i can hear him as i do things around the house

Thanks

Mine took almost all his daytime naps in his crib in our bedroom and never confused day and night

But before 6 months you should be staying with your baby for all naps/sleep, i.e. not leaving them with the monitor on 😕

It won't confuse him at this age, but it's best to keep him in the same room as you all the time. There's not a lot of evidence but I believe it's mainly due to SIDS risk

How did you manage to do other tasks? Like hanging laundry or cleaning?

You shouldn’t have the baby sleeping in a different room to you for any sleep until 6
months, certainly not 6 weeks.

Lullaby Trust has good safe sleeping resources. I know you’re keen to get things done but baby is main concern right now, not the dishes.

Same room as you for every sleep until six months, roughly halves the risk of SIDS, and <4 months is the peak risk period so it is especially important at this stage. Getting anything done with a young baby is very difficult. I used to do housework when baby was asleep in my husband's arms in the evening when he had finished work.

Please please read up on SIDS guidance. Look at Lullaby Trust ❤️

No he won’t get confused but I still wouldn’t do it whilst they’re so young. Put them in the pram and wheel them around with you when you want to do stuff downstairs. If you want to do stuff upstairs then put them to sleep upstairs e.g. put laundry away whilst they snooze in the crib in your room. Leave stuff like scrubbing bathrooms where it’s not feasible for them to be with you due to the lack of space and use of chemicals to the weekend when DH is home.

As we speak my 16 week old baby is asleep on me! I just do chores when she's awake and in her little bouncy chair watching me (she'll stay in it 15 mins max 😂) or if she's having a day where she wants to be held I just cuddle her and do laundry and clean on an evening whilst DP spends time with her. But I appreciate that's hard if you don't have a DP. Have you tried using a sling? DD enjoys sleeping in that too and it leaves your hands free. Echo what others are saying that lullaby trust advises baby in same room as you when they're asleep up to 6 months.

Standards were lowered for a while, but I could do a few things while he slept. At that age I vacuumed right next to him without him waking up

Sling.
While my baby is awake and playing on the mat: I narrate what I’m doing.
Lowering my standards.
DP picks up a lot of housework slack in the evenings while I clusterfeed.
Sometimes stuff doesn’t get done and that’s OK.
