Can you catch rotavirus through saliva

Hello

My baby had vaccinations last week and was given the oral rotavirus vaccination. I was told to be extra careful with he's nappies and saliva as you can catch it for ten days.

He just dribbled on my toddlers foot while I was holding him while sitting and my toddler decided to lick the saliva as I was reaching for the wipes

I am in a panic now and the baby group I am part of says they wasn't advised about saliva.

Worried now! Does anyone know if this is the case? I guess I will find out but worrying in the mean time!

yes, however the vaccine is a very weakened version so

Can someone kiss an infant on the mouth after they have received Rotarix? No studies have investigated transmission of vaccine virus from kissing a baby on the mouth after immunisation. However, it is theoretically possible for a person to be exposed to weakened vaccine virus in this way.

So it is theoretically possible but probably not extremely likely.
nhs info does just mention nappies and risk to people with severely weakened immune systems.

Won’t your toddler have had their rotavirus vaccination a couple of years ago anyway? So should be protected. Even if not, I wouldn’t worry. I have a toddler and a baby who has just had his 2nd round of rotavirus vaccine and I was freaked out by having to squeeze it into his mouth myself but it’s apparently a tiny amount of live virus. Don’t worry.

The vaccination is meant to protect for several years apparently so if your toddler did get vaccinated (mine did 2 years ago) then he or she will be fine
