Toddler fussiness with food?!

1st time mum to 15mo DS!

he’s always been quite good of an eater until around the age of 1 I’d say?

He’s fully against bread/bread products! So won’t eat a sandwich or toast

hes now off veg :( so getting veg is so hard I have. To mix it in stuff he used to eat it alone though. And won’t touch peas/sweetcorn

is thisnjust a normal phase? Will he like more stuff soon?

even he’s started to like something then not want it sometimes so likes crackers then I gave him them a few days later and he threw them and refused?

Isnthere anything I can do as his mum to help his palette or help him try new things?

I'm in the exact same situation with my 21 month old but it's been going on a few months now. Thing is she eats everything offered at nursery, but at home she'll often refuse something even if she seemed to love it a few days ago. I'm trying not to stress too much as I'm sure most toddlers go through a similar phase.

There are times when I have to resort to plain pasta or rice with a bit of butter but then other days she'll eat most of what's on offer. I also think she's more of a 'little and often' eater- for example she will have just a few bites of something for breakfast but then see the same thing an hour later and gobble it up.

I just continue to try and offer different things, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. But she's growing well and sleeps well so to me those are signs she's not going hungry.

Also I make a lot of 'hidden veg' sauces for pasta and rice which helps ensure she gets some nutrients!

@Housenoob yeah I’ve had to start mixing into sauce! I remember the days where he’d eat broccoli and cauliflower alone and love it

My son is definitely growing fine he’s so tall and moving well erc it was more just nutrients and variety I worried about

but I guess this is toddlers ! Aha

I have three DC, all really good eaters, and they all went through a fussy stage at around this age! So I think it's normal.

I think it's a power thing? They've just discovered that they have the power to say "no" and there's not much you can do about it!

Keep offering a variety of foods. Don't get stressed if he's not interested - act as if you don't care whether he eats or not. IME things will get better again in a few months.

Just keep putting bits out and some days they eat them and some days not. But if you stop offering things then they really go off them.

Try frozen peas and corn, the different texture and chilliness is often a winner (we called it chilly peas)

Try cutting things into shapes as apparently that makes them taste different!

Try offering dipping sauces and show him how to dip

Try giving things silly names (mine decided they didnt like fish but since they liked chicken I renames fish swimming chicken and then they liked it!)

Play games with the food. This bean is a jumping bean, look at it jumping into Mummys mouth (show is jump jump and then eat it with lots of drama). Do the jumping beans jump into your mouth too?
