I had this with a 2 year old. She woke up around an hour after the scan and was absolutely fine. The nurses regularly checked her while she was sedated and I was with her the whole time. No after effects such as vomiting etc. It was all much calmer and less scary than I’d anticipated.

The first time is nerve-wracking but they’ll take very great care of your little one. Waking up depends but they’ll try to get you in there as soon as possible. They might even let you ride on the trolley so he can rest in your arms.
Mine is 18 now but has had many many mri’s, sedated til he was 6.

Just to clarify, I obviously wasn’t with her while the MRI was taking place but was with her as soon as she came out of the scanning area and then stayed until she woke up.

Not sure about sedation as DD1 was a baby so needed to be under general anaesthetic for her MRI. She came round from the GA very quickly and had no side effects. She was only in hospital a few hours.

It'll be ok, my son had one not long ago. He was asleep seconds after being sedated. He was still asleep when they brought us back in afterwards but he started to rouse with encouragement and then they gave him a drink and a snack to eat as he was nil by mouth since the night before. Also told not to give him a heavy meal as may make him sick.
