Wanted - disposable nappies without 'cute' pictures all over them!

For all three of my children I've used Pampers and been perfectly happy with the performance we've got - still am but I have a tiny problem. Up till last week I could get away with the New baby ones - which are relatively plain - small design but nothing massive. Now I've moved on to the Active fits ones - and whilst the nappy itself is fine - I totally hate the way they are covered in pattern and colour! The ones we've got atm have Sesame Street on them!

So can anyone recommend a nappy which is as effective as Pampers - but plain - or at least plainer. I could buy them to try out - but that seems an expensive way to experiment.....

Thanks in advance!

Nature Boy/Girl nappies are very plain and also 70% biodegradable so much better for the environment.

Of course cloth is even better, and you can get them as plain or as patterned as you like!

flamesparrow - I know, I know - I did say it was a tiny problem

hmmmmm - so are moltex and/or nature baby good at their job as well as for the environment then?

Re cloth - I'm too old to change - and dd3 is nine months now - but I have to say it's tempting me every time I look at those blithering muppets!

Never too old to change! 9 months - at least another year of nappies I would say. Think of all that money being thrown away.

Think of the glistening white nappies you could have...

Flamesparrow · 12/02/2008 22:29

Ooh or just a nappy wrap!

NorthernLurker · 12/02/2008 22:29

Think of all the blithering muppets I will have to look at in the mean time........hmmmmm - will think on!

I found Moltex expensive, crap and leaky (luckily I got a pile of sample ones free from the health food shop man who said a rep had left them so I didn't fork out for them). nature baby are also expensive but I didnt' bother trying them, as unless you are going to remove the biodegradeable bits from these so called eco nappies and compost, they are just as bad as pampers.
And the nappy miles on those Moltex coming from scandinavia or wherever they make them, oh yes thats sooo environmentally friendly!

Rant over.

I used Tesco own brand disposables on holiday, found them very good nappies and am sure that although they had some patterns on they were not as in-ya-face as the pampers ones!

BirdyArms · 12/02/2008 22:34

Not sure that Nature are all that great for the environment but they are almost as good as pampers - slightly more bulky, friends have complained that they aren't as soft but they still have absorbing chemicals and I have never had any problems, leaks etc. A nice discreet leaf pattern Moltox have no absorbing chemicals so are bulkier and a bit gross if they get too wet but better for the environment.

NorthernLurker · 12/02/2008 22:34

nappy miles - hadn't thought of that!

Tesco - interesting - thanks

Nappy Wrap = waterproof cover you put over a cloth nappy. Lot of colours and patterns to choose from or just plain white.

Never to late to do the cloth thing if you want to, 9 months is actually a good time to change as you'll most likely only need one size of nappy until potty training.

I know where you are coming from though, I remember DD1's silly (and huge waste of money) pull up pants - blimen Disney princesses all over them

Pannacotta · 12/02/2008 22:39

I think Moltex are very good and not overly leaky - they are produced responsibly in Germany, not Scandinavia, and come in biodegradable packaging which you can compost (unlike any other nappies).
No nasty disney cartoons either.
Personally I wouldn't buy Tescos nappies as I think Tsscos are the ruin of many small businesses in the UK and have no eco/ethical credentials whatsoever.

NorthernLurker · 12/02/2008 22:40

Off to bed now - just wanted to say - lots of food for thought here - thanks very much for all your replies

Disney princesses - give me strength!!

Umm...yes, just wanted to say UK pampers, tescos own etc are not manufactured in the UK - is anything these days????

Flamesparrow · 12/02/2008 22:44

see plain white one you can just bung over the top to hide muppets

I know that pampers etc are shipped in. I know that they contain all sorts of 'agents'. And maybe Moltex may be the lesser evil of a very bad bunch. But I do get annoyed at Moltex being called 'eco disposables' when surely anything that uses resources in manufacture, is shipped all over the place and is designed to be used just once and then thrown away - well how on earth can that ever have a tag of 'eco'???

And come on, how many people who use d them actually put them on their wormeries or compost them after use?

Me I have washed nappies now for over 3 years including 12 months of two children in them. I do not have a tumble dryer so they were only ever air dryed. Thus I am so far in green credit that I can pass comment on Moltex DISPOSABLE nappies

MrsBadger · 12/02/2008 23:12

(NB the BabyDry Pampers are way less offensively patternrd than the ActiveFit)

BroccoliSpears · 15/02/2008 22:13

You're right about the disposable aspect Flibberty.

I, however, love Moltex. The only nappy that never leaked on my dd. The only nappy that never gave her nappy rash. And oh my GOD the SMELL of huggies and pampers and the like - it's like a chemical factory. On the odd occasion I've been caught short and borrowed a friends disposable I've hated the smell and hated the thought of all that on dd's skin.

Moltex smell really pleasant.

Oh, and to answer the OP - no pictures all over them.

EmmaSalmon · 17/02/2008 11:56

I used to use Moltex at night and cloth in the day. now we are cloth full time. I wouldnt put a disposable near him - had horrible leaks, nappy rash, and that disguting smell......bleuk

Alishanty · 18/02/2008 08:28

We uae cloth but for holiday I bought some of Asda's own Eco disposable nappies. Not sure how good they are for the environment but they were plain white all over with a tiny pattern around the top. We found them to work well and no leaks. I've only seen them in the larger Asda stores.
