Things to look forward to

We have DD 8 months who we love lots and is so much fun. DH and I were chatting earlier about all the things we are looking forward to with the toddler stage and child stage and wondered if anyone could tell me the great things that are yet to come! I often find that some parents can be quite negative about every stage, and we have lost count of how many times we've had the "just wait..." conversation! Looking for some positive baby to toddler, toddler to child stories to read through.

I have a 20 mo

When I drop him at Grandma's to go to work and say "come and give Mummy a big hug and kiss", he comes running with his arms outstretched.

He likes "helping" with housework.

It's amazing seeing him do a task that a few months ago he struggled with. He really evolves so quickly

Giggling together when we play hide and seek

Hearing him talking in his little baby voice.

Watching the little smile of joy when he has new experiences 🥰🥰🥰🥰

Making stupid noises and made up words together.. honestly my 3 year old find it hilarious

telling you they love you for the first time is the best feeling in the entire world

watching them gain interests and wanting to share experiences with you

some of the words they say/try to say are adorable and sometimes very funny.

just watching them learn I find fascinating

When they come running with their arms out for a cuddle when you pick them up or come home, shouting Mummmmyyyy!!

When they say I love you spontaneously for the first time.

When they learn a new skill like jumping and are so proud of themselves.

When they get friends at nursery and start talking about them at home.

When they take you by surprise by being braver or more advanced then you thought and suddenly start climbing rope ladders or going on the big slide.

When they can genuinely start helping with dinner, and chatting to you as you do it. My 3yr old loves helping chop things and then is delighted to see them on her plate!

When they can string enough words to chat, and tell you their amazing ideas about the world as they see it.
Their absolute delight when they try something new (balance bike, painting, mixing a cake, making their own sandwich. First poo on potty. Real pants. Dry night.
The first time they write their own name.

Awh thank you everyone, these are so sweet. Really lovely to hear such nice things. I'm looking forward to taking her out of dinner after school or watching a film together for the first time.

Mine is 2.5 now and the funniest age! Cracks me up and does not stop chatting about totally random observations 😃

But one thing I will say which was the answer given to me when I asked a similar question to my family - enjoy living in the moments now and don't wish time away dreaming of what's to come, because it will come and when it does you'll long for these days when they were small 😊
