Downstairs sleep?

Hi,

My son is not even 3 month and he’s already outgrown his moses basket ( he’s very long) we have a bedside crib upstairs which would be a hassle to fetch down. He’s even nearly outgrowing the pram carry cot. So what do you guys do for downstairs day naps ? In the meantime he’s been napping next to me
( supervised) with some pillows propped next to him but I obviously don’t want to leave him unsupervised.

is there anything to prevent rolling on sofas? My friend says hers napped in nests in the day, do they prevent rolling? or am I best off buying a travel cot or something for downstairs? They seem a little big for the living room.

any advice is appreciated, thank you in advance

I also have a long baby. Well two actually. Once they’d outgrown the pram, I usually put them upstairs in their cot and stayed in the room when they were under 6 months. DS2 we mainly had contact naps and sling naps until 7 months. DS1 I put a blanket on the floor and he napped on the floor sometimes.

Contact naps for us mainly too.

But otherwise DS usually napped on walks, so in his lie flat pushchair.

@tealandteal thank you , a sling is a good shout. I have been saying I’m going to get one but haven’t got around to it. Can you pop the toilet etc and he still stays asleep?

We used the travel cot as a playpen when ours was crawling, so if you're planning on having one anyway it might be worth getting it now and using for naps?

Caspianberg · 25/03/2023 06:05

If they outgrown pram carrycot, you can move onto main pram seat. Mine always naps best in pram v cot.

Contact naps for us mainly too! I binge watched Greys Anatomy while he napped on me and it was bliss 😅🤣

We did also have a Sleepyhead nest that was purely used for naps. I used it if I needed to get stuff done in the house so I could pop it on the floor in whatever room I was in and lay him in it (no other kids or pets! Obviously floor isn’t great if you have either of those 😅)

I did actually end up popping a travel cot in our lounge downstairs too. I bought a compact one that had a bassinet too. It’s much smaller than most travel cots. We were going away for a few days and needed one anyway so I thought I might as well. I don’t remember paying that price for it though!

For sling naps it really depends on your baby I’d say! Just like pretty much everything! They’ll soon let you know if they don’t like it 😅 mine liked being in the sling but would never nap in it.

Autienotnautie · 25/03/2023 06:32

Check what age they can use travel cot from if you go for that. Once we transitioned to cot mine slept upstairs.

shakeitoffsis · 25/03/2023 07:08

I used a purflo nest on the sofa with my two.

lady725516 · 25/03/2023 07:18

Mine used to nap on me or the sofa.
I saw someone roll a couple of blankets up in the shape of a sleepy head which I thought was a great idea

FusionChefGeoff · 25/03/2023 07:42

If no pets or other kids the floor is a great place to nap.

DustyLee123 · 25/03/2023 07:43

Pram, bouncy chair, floor on the play mat.

DragonbornMum · 25/03/2023 07:58

Chuck a mat on the floor for him

Twizbe · 25/03/2023 08:10

Long term a good play pen. They can sleep on the floor as many come with a soft padding to protect the floor. Safe and will be useable as they grow.

mondaytosunday · 25/03/2023 08:44

Travel cot.

If you have a sling library near you then that’s a good way to test them out. I have an ergobaby that I have used for both babies (lasts until they are toddlers).

I was able to tidy up/wash up/go get drinks etc with the sling on. And nip to the loo if needed! Mostly would just get settled on the sofa and watch a box set with snacks.

Charlotteap · 26/03/2023 22:54

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I have ordered an ergo and I’m debating a nest/ the joie travel cot that was recommended. For those who have nests are the sides big enough to prevent rolls? Or would they not be recommended to be placed on sofa anyway to nip to the toilet etc.

Thanks again all

Nests aren't really recommended any more as there have been some safety issues.

They won't be safe for sleeping on the sofa.

I had a playmat that had sides you could fold up. We used that on the floor for naps as well when they were very little.

@Charlotteap Definitely wouldn’t be leaving baby in anything on the sofa while you leave the room 😊
For us personally, we used the nest on the floor only when we were in the room.
