My DS is now 12 weeks and about 4 weeks ago he started doing exactly the same as your little one. He would start screaming about 8pm and there was nothing we could do to comfort him. We assumed it was wind, however, when I mentioned it to the Doctor he prescribed infant Gaviscon and it was like a miracle. It soothes him almost instantly so it was reflux and not wind. He has silent reflux as he isn’t sick at all but he does get hiccups a lot and prefers to sit up rather than being laid down as I assume that is uncomfortable for him. The Gaviscon has reduced the number of poos he does each day though so he may be a little constipated.

Cooled boiled water - still warm, not too hot or too cold

Give in on a teaspoon, or in a bottle, or a Calpol syringe (obv make sure sterilised)

Might or might not work but it’s worth a try

Hi OP I really sympathise as had this with my first baby. 5 weeks in I was so miserable. My DH used to carry the baby over his shoulder up and down the stairs for ages at night as it was the only thing that seemed to help.

I went to the doctor who just said "reflux" but basically, I think they say anything because colic is just "unexplained crying" so the only thing they want to assume is that's it's to do with digestion. I tried Infacol etc, took videos of the screaming to show the doctor which are still awful to watch now! (Not that I make it my evening viewing!)

I know this isn't really helpful but he just grew out of it. By about 10 weeks I realised we were having more nights free of screaming. It's awful but you just need to hang in there and know that it gets better Flowers

So many babies have this, I don't think there's a guaranteed solution or it would have been patented by now!
I found stomach massage helped, if you can find a baby massage class to show you the techniques that might be useful. I think the one I did was called Swedish baby massage but it was a long time ago so not 100% sure!

Hia lovely,

Just to add to the rest of the incredible advice, I would definitely suggest cutting out anything from one's diet that could cause irritation or an allergic / intolerance reaction if you are BF, such as

  • Dairy (big one!)
  • Gluten
  • Onions & garlic
  • there may be others, google it...
