Best clothing brands for long thin baby?

trrk · 24/03/2023 17:09

My DD has always been a long thin baby (90th percentile for height, 20th for weight) and I’m finding it hard to find clothes that fit well. She outgrows sleepsuits by length while the top part is still baggy and is also long in the body so bodysuits of the right length tend to be very loose fitting everywhere else. Any suggestions on which brands are best to try for long thin babies?

If you go for footless ones they're much better for long children I find! I liked lindex zipped ones for ease

Sewaccidentprone · 24/03/2023 18:26

Had same issue with ds1. Only footless sleepsuits.

He’s an adult now, but used to be a real struggle to buy clothes which fitted him well and didn’t make him look like a sack of spuds.

la redoute clothes used to be good.

Countquack · 24/03/2023 18:32

Next used to be good for this shape. Polarn O Pyret would probably be perfect as they are designed for growing, double poppers underneath, but they’re expensive to buy new.

I’d say not John Lewis as they seemed to be small. Definitely not Sainsbury’s Tu as I found their clothes to be cut for short and wide babies.

Gap or carter's and buy larger.

H&M, buy normal size

Tesco f&f baby wear always seemed long and thin to me. I dreaded being given stuff from there as I knew it would never fit over my chunky baby!

Porridgeislife · 24/03/2023 18:58

Bonds Wondersuits are perfect for my 25th percentile weight, 90th percentile height daughter. They are quite generous - she’s still in 3-6 months at 8.5 months (feet turned up).

MrsWidgerysLodger · 24/03/2023 19:06

H&m and Sainsbury's worked well for us. Avoid Asda as they seem to be made for chunkier babies

DS was a 22" long, thin baby (he's 23yo now) I found Tesco suited him.
And when he was out of na[ppes so didn't have the bulk round his rump but needed a lot of easy use trousers , the Tesco jogger type were a good length/narrow waist .

It doesn't get easier as they get older either <looks at 5'11" beanpoley son>

YorkshireIndie · 24/03/2023 20:41

I would go for HM or John Lewis. I found the feet on Tesco sleepsuits small (but then my LO had huge feet!)

SirVixofVixHall · 24/03/2023 20:43

Polarn o Pyret, La Redoute, Petit Bateau.
Polarn are generous in the legs and arms. Most French brands are slimmer cut than UK brands , so that if needed you can size up without getting something hugely wide.

Beseen22 · 24/03/2023 20:46

Tesco always lasted much longer that any other brand for me. Sainsburys is for chunky short babies. The plus side of having a long skinny kid is that shorts last for years..my 6 year old only grew out of his 2-3 shorts last year!

saveface · 24/03/2023 20:58

Yes another vote for Tesco f&f!

Also Hatley do slim fit footless babygrow which suit my long & skinny one - some lovely designs too.

Others include

  • Amazon basics footless with zips - not longer than average but a slimmer fit
  • H&M
  • M&S are generally generous but not particularly slim fitting but good value & wash well. I like their joggers & jumpers and use the baby grows for night when a bit baggy doesn't matter.
Burpcloth · 24/03/2023 21:13

Agree with h&m.
Leggings which are made from tights material are a great choice - I had some from h&m but loads of brands do them

Pastaf0rbreakfast · 24/03/2023 22:18

From next we got footless sleepsuits and now he is bigger we use their 2 piece pjs and trousers are good from there too.

M&S or Sainsbury’s for vests. M&S also good for shorts but not great for trousers.

Tesco for T-shirts and jumpers.

I haven’t found any shop that does everything well for a long thin baby.

forwardsandbackwardsandup · 24/03/2023 22:48

Surprised at people saying Tesco, maybe different for babies than toddlers? My skinny 3yr old can jump up and down and have her Tesco jammies fall to the floor as they're so wide. So wouldn't be recommending them for a tall skinny baby.

My favourite was Lindex. Their zippy footless sleepsuits are the best. Not cheap but they're on 3 for 2 and often do 20% off on top of that. Or you can get on Vinted. They're so soft and the patterns are cute. The sizing is massive though, skinny 3yo can just about fit into her fav zip sleepsuit in 12-18. And her chunky just turned 2yo brother is still wearing a pair of 9-12 trousers.

Boots clothing worked for mine

SHayre2706 · 20/05/2024 10:47

Did you ever manage to find tights that fit your long slim baby? My first is a boy so mostly lives in joggers so we can just tighten the drawstring. But daughter is 6 weeks and it would be nice to get little dresses, just a bit on the chilly side still some days... both have been born long and skinny which I am very thankful for 🤣 but makes getting clothing a pain in the butt, by the time they fit waistbands everything is too short! They both have big feet too...

I’m afraid we never really brought tights as I didn’t think they would be that comfortable for a tiny baby and am still waiting for my SD to start walking (she bum shuffles at the moment and dresses are not very practical). We had some from John Lewis which were OK and you can probably size up if you need to. Generally I’ve found H&M quite good for legging etc (as well as the more expensive Scandinavian brands like Polarn O Pyret).

Hi, are you still looking? I’ve just been given a lot of girls trousers, 2-3 years with small waist and long legs that I can’t use. The only issue is, I now live in Switzerland so you’d need to pay a bit extra in postage, unless you are planning a holiday or know anyone here. Let me know.

Strictlymad · 22/10/2024 10:56

M and s for long thin vests

This is the most random attempt to sell clothes I have ever come across. Don't they have Facebook Marketplace in Switzerland?

I love that you’re curious enough about the Swiss secondhand clothes market that you take time to reply to my message.
so I’ll gladly enlighten you. Where I live there are a lot of secondhand clothes attempted to be sold in various groups but it’s not so easy to sell stuff unless it’s a really quality jacket or specific item. I don’t know many people here as I’ve not lived here long so I have no friends with children younger than mine to pass these things to.
I hope you have an extra special day now that you have this new knowledge.

BertieBotts · 22/10/2024 18:01

Thanks, I will!
