Baby constantly ill!

Baby started nursery just over a month ago and has been unwell since! It started with a viral rash, then bronchiolitis, then a chest infection, then a viral cold again! I feel like I’ve been continuously giving him calpol and neurofen for over 4 weeks. He’s had 2 rounds of antibiotics and his most recent trip to the GP they have said it’s just viral, but I’m concerned as he seems to spike a temp every night around 1 ish and I’m having to medication to bring this down… I know this can be the case with him starting nursery I’m just worried that it’s something more that I’m missing?

Is this normal? Has anyone experienced similar? I’ve lost faith in the doctors as every time I’ve been each doctor has said something different, or contradicted the previous! Any advice appreciated ☺️

Totally normal. On the plus side, by the time he starts school he'll be virtually bulletproof whilst the other kids catch everything.

Definitely normal .... Children become unwell all the time. Illness after illness is normal. If the doctor has said it's viral then I would leave it at that. Don't rely so much on antibiotics too.

Totally normal but horrible. My baby started nursery in September just gone and from the word go it was a different illness every week for months. Three lots of gastro, so many colds I lost count, roseola, rsv that led to the out of hours walk-in centre calling an ambulance because it had turned into bronchiolitis. It was awful and I caught everything as well. There were times I thought I’d collapse from the lack of sleep and I worried about losing my job as I barely went to work. It got to the point I was convinced there was something seriously wrong with my baby’s immunity, nope! By the end of January and the hundredth cold, it all settled down and now he hasn’t had a day off sick since.

Yeah. This goes on for a LONG time. Batten down the hatches and accept the next few months are going to be a bit crap. It is relentless but it will get better eventually. Sympathy and hugs!

I've written a post on exactly this subject. We are going through the same and we're only a month in. It's awful and I'm shattered! Currently dealing with a nasty cough/potential chest infection having previously had ear infection and strep throat. All in a month!

Pain relief and GP if you think necessary. I've read that a lot of cough/chest infections are viral though and antibiotics won't help. I'm hoping things will improve and her immunity will build up but my god it's hard at the moment.

This sounds totally normal and how my daughters first couple of months went. She has just had her second winter at nursery and she's had far less bugs so it does get better.

Depressingly normal for about 2 years. Then again when they start school. Elder DD is now in year 1 and has been much less unwell this school year. It's a relief.

My eldest was 2.5 when the first lockdown was imposed and after about a month I said to my DH "this is rubbish but it IS really nice to wake up to a happy, healthy child every morning"

From a nursery point of view … I have worked in nursery’s for years. Whenever we had a new from college or someone who hadn’t worked with children before. We always knew that for the first year they would likely catch everything and would be off a lot.

I now ( 30 or so years later ) have a very robust immune system and I very rarely get ill.
this will carry on through most of primary as well. Also if u have lots of kids it will go back and forth between them.
