Surely this bedside crib isn’t safe for my son?

My 10 week old is too long for his moses basket so put him in his tutti air bedside crib but he keeps wiggling and pressing his face tight against the bottom, no matter which end I lay him on he keeps pressing his face up against it and really scaring me! I’m still wide awake as I keep moving him and I’m too afraid to sleep. I actually bought this crib as it advertised the breathable mesh sides , little did I know the mesh is a lot higher than his nose! Am I best off buying a new next to me which is all mesh? So he can still breathe through when he inevitably ends up there? As surely this isn’t safe. And if so any recommendations the chicco looks like is has big mesh sides. Thank you in advance

Mine did the same, the chicco next2me still has a not mesh panel on the inside so it's all the same. Sorry I know it's easier said than done, but don't worry about it.

He seems to be breathing fine even when pressed against it just annoying he seems to find that the most comfy!

As PP said I think the bottom of the next2me is also a solid panel. I think as its not padded like a duvet it will allow for sufficient air circulation and be fine. He probably enjoys the feeling of being next to something rather than exposed in the middle of the cot.

Thank you this makes me feel better. I kept moving him back to the middle and he looked pretty annoyed everytime and would just wiggle back on over and go back to sleep

Mine did that too and I was worried about their breathing! I bought this purflo thing before birth as I heard great things so I put it back into the next to me and baby is having much better sleeps (scared to jinx that 😂) and it's eliminated the roll to the side of the next to me.

My 13 week old is exactly the same. And she has been her whole life! I think she feels more comfortable being against something. I just find it amazing how they move from such a young age!

The Purflo baby nest is not recommended by the Lullaby Trust. On their advice baby would be safer sleeping next to the side of the cot than in the nest.

DD did (and does) the exact same. She sleeps best when she's wedged herself (and her face) against the side of the crib. Even better was when she learned to roll onto her stomach at 14 weeks and would only sleep face down 🙄

She's now 13 months and still likes to be wedged against the side.

I think you just have to leave them to it. They appear to be able to breathe fine.

Maybe you could try giving him a comforter ? My dd has one and she was given it around the same age as when she's tired she likes rubbing her face against something

LysHastighed · 22/03/2023 09:52

Probably you’re placing him quite far away and he’s managing to get up to the edge? If he can get into the situation, he can probably get out of it.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who had issues with such cots! After a lot or research I found Joie Roomie Glide which has mesh panel going all the way down to the mattress. It was a godsend as there were sooo many times when I saw my sons face squished against it. If it was a solid fabric panel I’d probably freak out…
