Comments about my child being small and very slim.

My DS2 is 22 months. He's a happy, busy toddler.

We had lots of feeding issues at the beginning bottle and breast which meant he dropped two percentiles but since he's been around 3 months, he's stayed on the 9th percentile. Height about 20th percentile.

He now eats really well. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. He really is a good eater and actually eats a variety of foods favourite is pasta and rice dishes but also loves roast dinner meat and sausages, veggies and fruit + actually... cheese is is his absolute favourite.

Even the childminder said they're surprised how small he is because he eats so much (they said this in a nice way though!)

I seem to get comments quite often that he is small and questions if he's eating properly (more so by men than other women) and just that's he's little isn't he? I know he is but he's developing really well and maybe I'm taking this too personal and the feeding trauma from the beginning sits in my bones. His older brother is on the 70th percentile for weight and very tall, so never received any comments. Is this normal for people to make comments on an almost 2 year olds appearance?

Yes, you will get comments like that if he sticks around 9th centile.
DS1 is called rubish-bin by some friends as he eats an enormous amount (quantity and variety). He is stubbornly between 6th and 9th centiles, and has been for years and years. He's skinny but healthy and fit. Buying trousers is a nightmare.

@CatOnTheChair same here, I need to roll them up at the waist. Interesting, maybe I just need thicker skin. X

Unfortunately yes, is on the second centile he has grow steadily on it since birth apart from a short period when he dipped to under the centile chart (he was still gaining weight throughout this time just very slowly). People make rude comments constantly which I'm sure they wouldn't make about a healthy larger child.

People seem to only ever want to see the 'average' when this just isn't the reality.

Some people will comment on anything. My dgd is short for her age, eats like a horse though but never puts on any weight. She hasn’t got my genes for sure!
In the other hand two of my five dgs are tall and big for their ages and people comment on that too.
It’s probably just conversation.

Ds was on the 90 percentile for height but 37-50 for weight. So tall but skinny. The number of people who told me he ate like an adult, as if I wasn’t the one feeding him most of his meals. I guess it’s like when you have red hair and everyone points it out like they’re the first to notice.
on the plus side I hardly spent anything on trousers/shorts etc as he never got any wider.
