i mean small kids, with parents/who ever.

went for pub tea with pals last night and a small boy about 6 was with 2 people drinking.was about 9.30, child was curled up on a pub chair asleep.
it made me want to cry seriously.
should he not have been tucked up safe and warm in his bed.
tis not half term either here so tis a school night.
what do you think?

dh said they could have been on hols as it is half term in other places and we are near Blackpool.

uch sorry didnt mean to be whiny about it

I'm with naily on this. My sis and I went to loads of events people nowadays would consider 'boring' because they didn't cater to children.

Well, that's life! No time like the present to learn that life doesn't always cater to you and you make your own fun.

I hate those play areas because then you spend the entire time with one eye on them and there's always some dead obnoxious kid in there causing trouble.

personally its not something i like, kids at a pub whilst parent drink. i just dont think its a place for children. i know people dont agree with me, so generally dont comment.

there is a difference between going for a pub meal though and taking kids with you. generally the dining area is in a different part of the pub. and i do think children need to be a in social situations. but not just for parents to be drinking. but again i think its different if its the summer and one pint with a decent beer garden and climbing frame.

i know its different now the smoking ban is in place, and this is what has mainly put me off in the past as two out of three of my dd's are asthmatic and it wouldnt have been a pleasent experience.

i know i am an odd-ball at times, so do expect people not to agree with me

In many areas, the pub is about the only option, however, for food, drink, hanging out, etc.

That's certainly the case in our rural area.

nailpolish · 13/02/2008 17:40

i think tahts the problem with the uk

drinking is bad - thats the message you ar sending to your children. pubs are bad drinking is bad

wrong

whats the matter with a glass of wine?

misdee · 13/02/2008 17:43

i dont drink np. well rarely.

i used to. a lot.

nailpolish · 13/02/2008 17:44

peoples attitude to drinking in the uk is awful

ScienceTeacher · 13/02/2008 17:45

Not without reason, NP

expatinscotland · 13/02/2008 17:45

DH doesn't drink, either, misdee. Well, he drank a Budweiser at New Year's.

He goes to pubs and drinks Coke.

nailpolish · 13/02/2008 17:46

yes i do agree, sciencetacher

misdee · 13/02/2008 17:50

coke is so overpriced in pubs expat.

what i find really strange is people questioning when you do go out and say you arent drinking. there is soo much pressure to drink. 'ooo go on have one,' 'no thanks just a coke is fine' 'would you like some vodka in that' 'no thank you'

i often end up making myself a designated driver as its so much easier then facing questions on why i dont drink.

the only alcohol i do drink is on special occasions like birthdays etc, or rare nights out. i got absolutly legless late last year for the first time in ages and felt rough for days afterwards. again recently went for a meal out with friends, stayed completly sober and still had such a good time.

expatinscotland · 13/02/2008 17:52

He goes to hang out with his friends, misdee.

We have to drive everywhere here, there's no public transport, so he's always the designated driver and his pals buy his Cokes.

He's just not a drinker. Never has been.

expatinscotland · 13/02/2008 17:53

there really isn't an alternative for hanging out round here. there just isn't.

that's how it is in a lot of rural areas.

misdee · 13/02/2008 17:56

thats good expat. i forget you are off public transport links and quite out of the way now.

i'm not against people drinking at all, peter likes a beer in the evenings a couple of days a week, its soemthing he missed before transplant a lot. personally i didnt.

SparklyDYSONGothKat · 13/02/2008 19:40

I am not a drinker either. I hate people questioning me when I don't drink. I don't go to pubs, so wouldn't be in the situtaion with my kids. DH likes a drink in the evening, but he knows that I don't enjoy it myself, so will get me a coke or something.
