wetting through disposables at night, would BG work?

Ds is in cloth during the day but since about 3 months he is in disposables at night as he wees a lot and only they were up to the task (and I tried many combos!). In the last few nights he has been waking at about 4am and needing to be changed (never used to change him at night), then getting wet through to his pjs and last night even the sheets were wet!

He is about 10kgs and the nappies are 9-14kgs so I´m not sure we can go up a size. He doesn´t drink or eat more or differently than before so not sure why this change?

Has this happened to anyone and any suggestions?

We started using Bumgenius a couple of months ago and they are fantastic, really absorbant, reliable, no leaks, and keep his skin dry. Has anyone used these at night and do they need boosting/what with? Maybe worth a try instead of sposies??

I found no cloth nappies will keep either of mine going thru the night.
And I tried, believe me I tried, but the pj and sheet washing was too much, not to mention a cold miserable child in the middle of the night.
Mine wear disps at night and sometimes wet thru those too. They both weigh 24lbs and I put them in size 5 Junior.

Our DD used to get very wet at night, we used to change her nappy ( and still check) before we went to bed, she didn't wake up up after the first few times.

We do use Bumgenius nappies at night and whilst we find them fine, bear in mind we also toilet DD before she goes to bed and so in the morning she is usually dry.

So though they seemed to work well when she was a little baby, they haven't actually been tested recently.

I've not used BG at night, i am always wary of pockets at night except minkis incase the boosting makes them pull the insidey bit outside and wick.

I am a shaped nappy and wool girl for night - a boosted bamboo quickflip is my fave. Ooh or when I had a bamboo baby bufters that was good too!

I have used Minki Huggles with 2 boosters with my youngest 2 at night and never had a leak. I have also used XXL fuzzi bunx stuffed with banana babies inserts and they only leaked once they didn't suit my child's build.

My DD will wet through a disposable at night no problem but is quite happy in an ellas house bumhugger plus motherease airflow wrap. They are fully fleece lined so you have lovely soft dry skin after a long night (not that we often get those)

Like Flame, I tend to avoid pocket nappies at night too due to wicking issues. When I have tried a pocket nappy the only boosting that was enough was a pad folded bamboo terry square.

Maveta · 13/02/2008 10:15

well I don't use my bambineo's anymore so I was wondering if I could slip one or two of those inserts into the BG? They're dead thin...

worth a try

Maveta, really admire your use of real nappies - my full intention, but my LO wet through everything, once wet through motherease in 20 mins (he was quite ill), so we resorted to sposies and have never looked back since using Tescos own - he was at one stage wetting through up to 3 times a night and with my raw hands I couldn't face changing sheets every night in middle of night. He has only wet through Tescos nappies once or twice in the night. So, if you don't find resusables that work, they may be worth a try. We've always gone up a size in them though before he reached the upper weight limit - it might be because he's quite tall.

Maveta · 13/02/2008 18:59

hmm.. i forgot tonight, just whacked him into a sposie out of habit, might try tomorrow.

I use reusables during the day but have used disposables at night since he was 3 mo, I moved to them at night because of soaking through the cloth and now am looking at changing back to cloth because the disposables aren´t up to it I´m at a loss. Maybe I should try and toilet train him

What wrap were you using when you tried last time, maveta? Perhaps it's the wrap that's the problem, only I had an issue that ds was leaking through everything at night and came to the conclusion that I needed larger wraps as I was boosting enough. And I use bambineo boosters. I bought another lovebums wrap and that's fine now with fluffle + 2 boosters or bambineo+sandy's plus booster. What about a bambineo+booster inside another nappy such as a MEO?
Can't see a bg managing all those inserts without losing it's shape and leaking tbh.

bubblagirl · 13/02/2008 19:14

i always a s arulle change my ds when i go to bed other wise his nappy will not see him throught ill the morning so maybe make a concious effort to change nappy when you go to bed

i use huggies he is size 5 but i go for size 6 for a night time

Maveta · 13/02/2008 19:15

well see that´s where dh stepped in and said he wasn´t happy with ds looking like he had a football strapped to his bum and I compromised thinking that if I´d ´won´ the cloth argument for the majority of the time, I could let dh have his night time sposie. but now I´m back to wondering..
