2yo horrendous about dummy

He only ever had it for nap/bedtime but then suddenly started wanting it more and more. And then it was the case that he had it in the house but nowhere else but now he’s demanding it all the time and he is honestly awful if we say no. He does have tantrums but these seem a step beyond,
much longer lived and screaming for ages.

I am guessing I just need to bite the bullet but it’s so hard having hours and hours of whining and screaming.

Yep, time to get rid.
It will be a painful few days (& nights!) but it's like a plaster, better to just rip it off!
We had the same issue so I do sympathise. It won't last long though & you'll all be better for it afterwards. Good luck!

Thanks - worry it makes his face sore as well! I have a couple of weeks holiday at the end of this month, think we’ll say bye bye to the dummy then!

Two of mine had dummies until they were about three - only for down times and I dreaded getting rid of them and thought they would never sleep again.
Both times everything settled down much much quicker than expected - with one of them the dummy broke a few days before the planned day which helped a bit.

We got rid of the dummy for our 2yo in January and honestly it was almost a month before he stopped asking for it, and naps and bedtime are still a lot more difficult because we don't have that off switch anymore. It has reduced the number of general tantrums though so it was definitely worth it.

@amaretti1999 i wouldn’t mind if it was only for naps but he’s actually wanting it more the more he has it.

That’s not great re the naps - already can be challenging 😬

We were the same, we are still happy for DC to have it for sleep, so we bought/made a special treasure chest box that he puts the dummies in when he wakes up. We had a day of grumping but it has worked, he won't hand a dummy over to us but he will happily put them in his special treasure chest
