If your baby moved a lot in the womb, what are they like now?

Just curious really as I’m 26 weeks pregnant and the baby moves a LOT so I wondered if their movement in the womb correlates to when they’re babies / toddlers?

Both DC were wrigglers in the womb and it hasn't stopped. Both learnt to walk at 8 months and both won't sit still. DC1 is an enthusiastic dancer and acrobat. DC2 loves break-dancing and pretending to be Spiderman!

romdowa · 14/03/2023 07:45

My ds was the opposite, hid movements were mild when I was expecting but not he never stops. Wants to be on the go all the time.

I’ve had 3 anterior placentas (3 kids) so a non-placenta-position-biased experience I guess.
DC1 is now 7 and NEVER stops moving. Always fidgeting or running around or wrestling. I was in with reduced movements with him a lot 😄

In fact I went in for reduced movements with the other 2 so I think all 3 had similar movements as far as I remember. The other 2 are much more chilled but all 3 walking before 1 and very physical.

I have a theory (sample size of my 3 and another family baby) that it’s the birth that decides their restlessness levels. My non stop DC1 had a very very fast and traumatic birth (40 mins, forceps). Family baby had traumatic forceps birth and is v energetic and needs lots of hands-on too. The other 2 were lovely calm c sections and lovely calm babies.

My ds didn't move a lot at all really but has been a live wire and full of energy. Still is really even as an older teen so I don't think levels of activity in the womb relate to how active ababy/child will be.

ApplePippa · 14/03/2023 08:01

DS moved a lot. He's my only, so I have nothing to compare him with, but at every antenatal appointment I was told I had a very active baby. I was on a monitor before he was born and the midwife called him "excitable" .

As a baby, massive sleep issues! Very active toddler. He's now 14 - not in the least bit sporty and I struggle to get him active.

Zola1 · 14/03/2023 08:01

Ha, 12 year old was super active and hasn't sat still in her 12 years of life, she was using her feet to push her changing mat around the room by 4 months old

Lovinmyblanket · 14/03/2023 08:06

Mine moved a lot, now diagnosed with adhd, but I genuinely don't think there's any connection!

Itsonlyagame · 14/03/2023 08:46

My ds was constantly on the move, still is now at 7. He is autistic and had adhd. He never stops, even when hes sleeping he fidgets. I would love to put a fitbit on him to see how many steps he does in a day! I'm not sure it is connected though.

CanYouSayDicksickle · 14/03/2023 08:53

My baby was absolute nuts, once kicked non-stop for 2hours when I was pregnant. They are 1 y/o now and very much an extremely active baby running around!

MudLady · 14/03/2023 08:59

I first felt my DD move at almost 12 weeks, I had my scan a few days later & the nurse hadn’t believed me until I was able to accurately tell her when I felt a movement.
DD seemed to move almost constantly throughout the rest of the pregnancy, it was exhausting & she is much the same now, sometimes I call her the Duracell bunny…

purpledalmation · 14/03/2023 10:01

DS never stopped moving. He has adhd. DD nice and normal is now nice and normal 😀

toycat · 14/03/2023 10:09

Same now he's six as he was in the womb! Always on the go. Bright and chatty, loves to climb. Still doesn't sleep through the night. Bags of energy

PictureNotPerfect · 14/03/2023 10:16

My DD used to feel like she was doing acrobats in the womb, it felt like she was constantly flipping over, and now she loves gymnastics and climbing. My DS used to kick a lot in the womb to the point it hurt by the end of the pregnancy, and when he was a toddler if he got into a strop he would lie down and kick his feet. So I think it does correlate.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 14/03/2023 10:24

Mine are young adults now.

Ds didn’t move much. He’s pretty laid back now.

Dd was a constant fidget. She’s a pretty stressy person now.

Raggeo · 14/03/2023 10:29

My eldest was an easy pregnancy, always in the right position for scans, moved but not excessively. As a baby he was very chilled and even now as a young child he loves sitting reading books or drawing and sleeps well.
My youngest was always moving in the womb and we had a difficult pregnancy. Scans had to be repeated because she was never in the right position or was moving too much. I had to go for heartbeat monitoring and she moved the whole time so I had to stay for hours because they couldn't get a 'resting' heartbeat. As a baby she was always moving and as a toddler she never sits still. She's a little live wire and barely slept for the first year.

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 14/03/2023 12:09

I turned somersaults in the womb and wouldn't stop moving and kicking apparently. I was a late walker, a lazy child and have grown into an extremely lazy person and have never played sport or liked physical activity. So... maybe I was just bored in there. I don't think there's a definite correlation.

TheBirdintheCave · 14/03/2023 12:12

My son has the nickname Wiggles due to the fact that he never stopped moving and stretching in the womb. He's now two and has only recently learnt the joy of sitting still for a while! He loves running and climbing 😂

CornishGem1975 · 14/03/2023 12:15

Feral.

TemptingTess · 14/03/2023 12:16

Hit all physical milestones early and has ADHD. He's our family rocket

PriscillaQueenOfThePudding · 14/03/2023 12:18

Full on, pretty much all the time. Super intelligent and sweet with it though.

MicroSoftTeamz · 14/03/2023 12:18

This made me smile a bit this thread. My LO was SO active in my tummy, particularly around 11pm when I went to bed, kick, kick, kick.

Needless to say between 0-8 months her sleep was horrendous!!
She's nearly 5 now, bright as a button, full of energy, stuck to me like glue, she calls herself "mummy's shadow" and sleep has improved but she still wakes up once or twice a night... we're getting there!

MicroSoftTeamz · 14/03/2023 12:19

She is also SUPER intelligent :)

NewPatioPlease · 14/03/2023 12:20

Turned out to have ADHD and is very sporty indeed! He didn’t sit down until he was about 16.

GenuinelyDone · 14/03/2023 12:43

My mellow baby never fucking stops moving (even as a teenager). My non-stop baby is so chill she's horizontal.

Mellow baby nightmare for sleeping (still is, wakes at the sound of a pin dropping). Non-stop baby could sleep through a hurricane.

Based on my two, there's no correlation between baby movements and how they turned out.

However the food oddities I ate when pregnant with each of them do correlate with how they eat now.

Ariela · 14/03/2023 13:09

23 year old now, kicked a lot in the womb. As a toddler ran everywhere, at primary could lap the entire class in the 600m at sports day, at secondary school loved football and was unnaturally good at it - was always being asked which team they played for. Never took it up but still is very sporty, rides, rows, runs for fun on a day off, that kind of thing. No good at swimming though, can swim but isn't fast.
Interestingly what @GenuinelyDone says is true, she put me off coffee and curries while pregnant - dislikes both, loves ice cream which I had cravings for and was a hot baby always trying to take clothes off and swans about in a tshirt now, and adores ice cream
