Carobel - ready made feeds

Hi

looking to try Carobel with my very sick little one. Does it need to be sterilised in hot water like milk powder? If not, do you add it once the feed is prepared and can you use it with ready made formula?
i am going abroad soon and using a mix of powder / ready to drink and just wondered if I could use it?

I just used to add it once the milk had been made up, there is no need to sterilise the powder.

I used to add it with the powder before doing the hot shot, swirl round then the next lot of water.
I found when doing it after it didn't dissolve as well and would end up lumpy at the bottom of the bottle.

I wouldn't use it in ready made.

Have you tried Aptamil anti reflux formula? It has a thickener in it so no need to add anything else…

ecossegirl91 · 14/03/2023 08:18

@TheGlitterFairy ive thought about reflux formula yes but it seems more of a faff - waiting 7 mins etc and with carobel I can determine the thickness!

@ecossegirl91 we used the “waiting time” to change a nappy with and then it was ready to go from that timeframe. Just made it up with the perfect prep machine in a normal way - ensured it was vigorously mixed after the first shot and then again with the rest of the water - did the nappy change and then it was thick enough. But yes - you can’t change the thickness of it as it’s already in there.

Make sure you have some bigger sized teats also!

justmewithmylifetoday · 14/03/2023 11:36

It dissolves better in warm milk but doesn't have to be. We have used carobel in ready made formula. It just needs more vigorous shaking/sitting for a bit to thicken.

Agree with PP that you might need to adjust the flow of the teats to accommodate the thicker milk.

Good luck OP reflux is awful

He’s on mam size 2s just now so I bought some 3s incase it’s needed!

@justmewithmylifetoday that’s good to know you used it in ready made! We are on holiday soon and going to use powder and ready made but obviously ready made is easier when out and about! We do warm the ready made by standing in hot water so maybe the heat from that will help a bit - alongside lots of shaking!!

Get some variflow teats instead.
you find your balance with carobel but I found in ready made it needed half a scoop more than normal 🙂

justmewithmylifetoday · 14/03/2023 15:15

I second @Danikm151 ready made does need a bit more carobel as it is thinner than powdered milk.

Hi, my little one throws up alot on the normal formula so i was advised by tbe doc to start the anti reflux formula but find that I can't get rid of the lumps regardless of how rigorously i shake the bottle. Does anyone have any tip on how to get rid of the lumps x
