How bad are the last molars, honestly?

DD will be 3 in May. We’re still waiting for those last molars to come in, been seeing signs of teething for months and recently could see white under the gum.

Yesterday woke up saying her tummy hurt, didn’t think much of it, suffers with constipation put it down to that. Ate breakfast fine so went to football, ran around like her usual self, came home, had lunch and 20 minutes later throws up. Threw up a total of 4 times yesterday. Last time was 10:30pm. Also had a temp of 38.5.

Today she hasn’t been sick but hasn’t eaten hardly anything, been sleeping on and off all day and temp started rising again near bedtime. Gave Calpol and put her to bed at 7 as she was yawning her head off. Has already woken 3 times crying saying her teeth hurt.

This can’t be all down to teeth surely?!

It sounds like a bug to be honest. Maybe a bit of teething on top (but did you say ‘do your teeth hurt?’ Or did she say that of her own volition?

Nurofen much better for tooth pain than calpol but I wouldn’t give it on an empty stomach. Anbesol liquid rubbed on sore gums is magic.

The last molars come in much later than 3? DS has his at 6/7 which dentist said was early. Notice nothing and he didn’t mention anything.

Neither of mine had vomiting as a sign of teething.

My just turned 6 year old has 5 of her big molars. I think 3 is too early for it to be related to that.

As for how bad it is, my daughter has never complained once about them being painful, she only knows they’re there because she can feel them with her tongue. That said we never had any problems with teething as a baby so we may just be lucky.

Definitely sounds like more than just teething to me, but it could be both teething and poorly - I always feel like when mine are teething badly they also seem to be more vulnerable to illnesses, either catching more or just responding worse to bugs than they otherwise might have done.

I’ve never heard of vomiting due to teething so I wouldn’t think it’s that.

as above though, I think teeth coming through seems to be linked to generally being under the weather. I’ve got a wisdom tooth which has been gradually coming through for about 2 years. Every time it flares up and is painful, I also have a cold/flu/chest infection type thing. I don’t know if one causes the other or it’s just coincidental but they always seem to go together!!

"teething" is an old wives tale, it isn't real

Haha. Ok. So the blazing cheeks, dribbling, tears, red gums and pulling at their mouth just before new teeth break through is…what?

Okay then 🤣

Hope she feels better soon 💕

My 2.5yo has just got her last molars and they've been fine. She told us occasionally her teeth hurt but didn't have too many symptoms. She has vomited with teething now and again but she had severe reflux as a baby so it tends to cause a bit of reflux even now when teething, but all those symptoms together do sound like a bug.

Sorry, I wasn't really sure when the first bout of teething ended as we never had any symptoms or pain with them for some reason, I assumed it was done by toddler years, apologies for seeming unhelpful. Just a bit thick!
