11 months to settle in before I started work after a year's maternity. Why?

Tiddlywinkly · 12/03/2023 19:49

7 months.

Needmorelego · 12/03/2023 19:50

@choosekindnessalways are you referring to pre-school nursery or day care nursery?
Because they are different.
Mine went the September after she was 3 (so 3 years, 4 months). It was the Nursery Class at the local primary. Mornings only.
We didn't need daycare so she didn't go before that.

HubertTheGoat · 12/03/2023 19:50

Around a year, when I went back to work after maternity, as did everyone I know apart from one SAHM.

ForeverTired89 · 12/03/2023 19:52

2 years 4 months when her 15 hours kicked in.

Simonjt · 12/03/2023 19:52

13 months and 2.5 years, however they weren’t 0 when they came home, so our youngest started nursery after eleven months at home and my oldest 14 months at home.

Parker231 · 12/03/2023 19:53

Six months full time

Writeandroll · 12/03/2023 19:53

7 months for both. Never regretted it, they love it and are very well cared for

Hayliebells · 12/03/2023 19:53

When I went back to work after maternity leave. So 11 months for DC1 and 9 months for DC2. Why the question? Surely you send them to nursery whenever you need the childcare after maternity leave, however long that is, unless you’re at SAHP. It’s not usually “discretionary”.

GoAgainstNicki · 12/03/2023 19:53

My daughters about to start next month at nearly two years old (she’s 2 in May)

Dontletitsnow · 12/03/2023 19:54

3 months and 18 months

Kranke · 12/03/2023 19:54

What are you wondering about? It doesn’t matter when random people on the internet sent their child to nursery, there are so many different factors at play. Just do what feels right for you or what you can afford.

Unless you’re a lazy journalist, then my answer is ‘as soon as they popped out’!!

cptartapp · 12/03/2023 19:55

DC1 four months.
DC2 five months.
Both pt. Twenty years on and never a single regret. It was the only break we ever got.

AftersomeAdvice234 · 12/03/2023 19:55

21 months. We had the option for mother to take care of her so we took it. With the next one we won’t have that option but I wouldn’t send next dc to nursery until they can walk atleast

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 12/03/2023 19:57

7 months

AnneLovesGilbert · 12/03/2023 19:59

Three and a half, part time.

YukoandHiro · 12/03/2023 20:04

13 months first time, 11.5 months second time. Youngest settled easier, but I think that's to do with the fact that I made less fuss about it all myself

Abra1t · 11/11/2023 12:15

Youngest went at four months for three half-days a week because she seemed to be very fed up when her toddler brother wasn't around to amuse her!

He went at about nine months, for three half- days.

Gradually both of them built up to four half-days a week. It worked well for them and me, as I could work part-time+ (using nights to do some more and also 'swapping' children with other friends to gain more hours).

Even from being a newborn, the youngest has always been very happy in busy places with lots going on around her. Oldest, not so much, but I think their really lovely nursery helped him with this.

I was 36 when my little one started nursery. You're welcome.
