Baby itching neck / eczema

My 6 month old constantly itches his neck and I don’t know what else to do about it. It stops us both from sleeping as I physically have to hold his hands down to get him to sleep, he also can’t just be left to play for even 30 seconds during the day as he will just start at his neck and make it worse

He tends to do it more when he is tired. His neck is very inflamed and red. Been to the doctors numerous times and got different creams for eczema. We have been referred to an allergy clinic but the appointment is not for months, in the mean time I have been told to cut out all dairy which has improved other symptoms (EBF) but his neck is still a massive issue. I do the following:

  • keep him moisturised
  • use a hydrocortisone to help with inflammation which does help but then if we go a day without using it , it comes back …
  • only bath him twice a week with prescribed soap or just water if it’s bad
  • use non bio washing powder
  • have scratch mits on him most of the time
  • keep his nails trimmed
  • on antihistamine medicine twice a day off the doctor
  • make sure he’s not too hot/cold

I have eczema and I know it’s a process finding triggers etc but has anyone got any suggestions how I can help him? I hate seeing him so uncomfortable.

hi
my baby had really bad baby acne and cradle cap at 2 weeks old which cleared up within a month but the rash and redness on neck always stayed. Doctor prescribed thrush cream which I put on for 2 months but didn’t seem to fully go and came back. I stopped the cream and now apply prickly heat talc powder which has reduce the redness significantly but doesn’t seem to fully go and if it does, it’ll come back the next day.
my baby is currently 6 months old and now itches the neck esp more when tired (she never used to itch it before). my baby also itches her ear and forms scabs and last week made her ear bleed that it had a pool of blood. She does it more when tired or frustrated but I have to trim her nails weekly or even twice a week and keep mits on her which I don’t want to do now in the summer and she can’t even play with her toys with mits too now. I’ve just thought the itching of the ear thing is normal and she even itches her head and side burn area too which she made herself have bad scratches and made it very red when nails were a bit sharp. i don’t know if this is a serious issue how come you’re doing an allergy test? Do you think it’s Cus of something she’s eatense

Is it milk dribble rash? Could try metanium over night to heal it.

Are you cutting out egg or soya too? They were triggers for my DC.

I thought it was milk dribble rash and moisture build up and thought it’ll just go when her head becomes more stable and crawls. I clean the area with cooled boiled water regularly.
she’s had this for months now when she was exclusively breastfed and just started solids now so I don’t think it’ll be eggs/ soya- not sure?
talc does work really well tho and has cleared up significantly, even tried petroleum jelly as a barrier which worked well too if you want to try

Hi , my baby is now 9 month old. We had an appointment at the allergy clinic due to other symptoms too and a bad reaction every time I tried ‘normal’ formula. He has an IGE and non IGE allergy to milk. I cut milk out of our diets and all symptoms went within 3 weeks. He does still get a bit of eczema but nowhere near as bad as what it was. He also still itches randomly when he is tired - I think it’s becoming a comfort thing as there is no redness where he is itching 🤷🏻‍♀️ still not sure on this. Also having to file his nails constantly to stop him cutting himself x

Hey

my 8 month old is going through this atm too wondered if you found anything to help. He has severe eczema and especially on his face and found his neck. So much itching at night and when playing :( it’s been like it for 5 months now so completely at a loose end with it!

Hey
My daughter just turned one this week and wrote that post when she was 6 months- how time flies!
Her neck rash cleared up significantly with the prickly heat talcum powder I picked up and everything was fine until recently where she had a fungal rash on back of neck and back which caused itching. Went to doctor and he gave Dakotacort and aveeno moisturiser because he suspected a fungal rash and just put it on twice and cleared up AH but she does itch her head loads! Wanted to pierce her ears but hesitant because she itches her head so much esp more at night and when frustrated more! Friend has recommend kokoso scalp cream which I’ve been using for two days and do feel like her scalp feels more dry and have noticed less itchiness, also, have been regularly been applying coconut oil to prevent her scalp from drying out which Kokoso also do. When I was younger, I did have dermatitis on my scalp too so I feel like the itchiness has passed down- hope that’s helpful!
