When to wean

So I have a very hungry little (big) boy whom I’m holding off on weaning as too young currently by increasing his milk feeds.
he’s a very refluxy baby so I am looking forward to weaning as I know some (not all) reflux babies start to cope better when weaned.
baby will be 24weeks at end of the month - he can sit in a high chair, bring objects to his mouth and tries to stick his hands in our meals or hers quite upset when we are eating.

so my question is - is it weaning at 24 weeks? Or 6 full calendar months which would be a few weeks later? I’ve seen conflicting info online - nhs says around 6 months and the Irish health board says no later than 24 weeks due to iron stores?

would 24 weeks be okay? I know this can be a hot topic on mumsnet!

My oldest was weaned at 4 months because he was ready, my youngest wasn't ready until she was close to 8 months. I'd say 4 months is the absolute earliest it's safe so if your baby seems ready, go for it. We started out with little portions of baby rice made with his milk and then gave the rest of the bottle, good way to start off

6 months is 26 weeks, and the NHS says "around 6 months" so I'd say 24 weeks is within that guidance if they're showing the other signs of being ready.

Baby is ready when they can sit up, puck food up with their hands and put it in their mouths.

For most that's about 6 months. Some earlier. Some later.

Sounds like yours was a ready to go. Don't stress about a few days here or there.

Have fun. Enjoy the mess.
