Worried - 18 month old only walks at home not at nursery

Hi all - currently going through a strange situation with my 18 month old and I wondered if any of you have experienced anything similar or can offer advice. My daughter has bern walking at home for about 3 weeks now. Not a huge amount - just what I call 'set pieces' - so from the coffee table to the kitchen area, around the kitchen island, from one bedroom to another. She still likes to crawl and knee walk though as her main mode of transport but is making good progress with walking.

Thing is I asked her nursery today how's she's been getting on with walking there and her key person looked really puzzled. She said she hasn't been walking at all - only 2/3 steps. She was really surprised when I said she's been walking at home. She did say that when my daughter spots the nursery staff looking at her when she takes steps she quickly drops down to her bum.

I don't know what to make of this. Should I be concerned if she is okay walking at home? What could be the reasons for her not wanting to walk at nursery?

I'm just really exhausted. She's late to walk as it is and I felt a degree of relief when she started to walk at home but now this news from nursery has really thrown me.

Do you think I should contact the GP or HV?

Thanks for reading xx

It probably doesn’t mean anything other than the floor feels different on her feet, or that she feels less confident at nursery, or she’s more tired there. What exactly are you concerned about?

She's practicing where she's less likely to get knocked over and feels safe, that's all. She'll be legging it around before you know it.

I guess I'm just feeling a bit disappointed and that I celebrated too early as she's not a walker until she's walking in different environments. I cant understand why she doesn't just walk because she knows how to. Maybe I am being a bit OTT with worry but it just feels like all babies around me have been walking for months but mine is being selective and even at homee prefers to crawl and knee walk. I'm just worried that this is abnornal.

Honestly, you're worrying about nothing. She's fine. My dd walked at the same age. She's 24 next week with fully working legs.

Why are you getting so caught up in the technicalities? I counted my daughter as walking when she took her first steps - I didn’t have some checklist of different places she had to walk before I considered her a “walker”

You sound like you either have uncontrolled anxiety or you have a fairly low view:excessively high expectations of a babg

Thanks. I know I sound like a loon, but I just want to see her walk and explore in all environments.

I'll try to relax 😌

I cannot stress enough how much you are worrying about nothing here. Just let her be and put it out of your mind. She's started walking and she's still learning and practicing.

18 months is not that late to walking.

Mine didn’t walk until 19 months, has had absolutely zero lasting impact - he’s fast, climbs, etc.

I expect she’s just more comfortable walking in a quieter environment for now. I wouldn’t worry about it at all.
