Clothes as presents?

Hi,

So I'm just wondering; do you gift clothes as presents on birthdays and holidays etc? Or give randomly throughout the year? My DS will be 4 this summer. I've just bought him some lovely 4-5 clothes in the M&S sale (including bits he'll love, marvel pj's etc). Previously I've just showed him then saved any clothes I've bought, then updated his wardrobe as and when needed size wise, I haven't "given" him then as such. We're very lucky his grandparents also buy him clothes - they do tend to wrap and gift them (as I would think that most people's extended relatives might). I am now wondering whether to "gift" him these clothes, or just continue as we have - after all it is part of the job description to clothe them!!! It wouldn't change the budget for birthday gifts, he'd just have more to open, but then again opening clothes as a child is hardly exciting is it?! What does everyone do? I'm thinking just the really good stuff if anything?

Thank you for answering my rambling pondering thoughts 😁

You will get lots of MNs saying no just give the clothes, it’s your obligation to clothes your child yada yada yada. I do both, if they need clothes I obviously buy them but I also gift them for birthdays and Christmas. I think it’s definitely more of a WC thing that MC. I have some cloths put aside for my DDs birthdays next month, they are more of a fashion than a necessity purchase and I know they will love and appreciate them as presents.

I only ever gifted clothes that would have a wow factor. Eg DS has at various stages loved all things diggers/tractors and then moved on to dinosaurs. JCB did a range of branded children's clothes at the time so he got Tshirts/hoodies/wellies all with diggers on in yellow and black. Dinosaur clothing was hard to come by when he was at that age/stage so again special dinosaur clothing items would be presents. Day to day clothes were generally a lot cheaper.

I wouldn't up the quantity of presents that just sets you up for giving more than you can afford next time. I don't really understand buying loads of gifts for a birthday though I was brought up with one or two from mum and dad, one from sibling, one from each set of grandparents and aunts and uncles.
