I am such a crap parent, I hate it when they are off school

I just hate it, never get a single minute to myself, can never find anything for them to do that will please all of them, and I end up wishing the whole week away.

I don't even like the weekends.

They are only off for a week this time, but then it will be 2 for easter and then the dreaded 6 weeks, at which point I generally lose it and everyone has a miserable time.

I like the fact that we don't have to have such a strict routine as when they are at school, but thats it.

One of my DC's favourite wet weather pastimes is undoubtedly one for the "Bad Mummy guide to entertaining children". They get their sleeping bags out, get into them and toboggan down the stairs. The sounds of bodies hitting the floor is drowned out by hysterical giggles . Keeps them happy for hours.

hunofmonsters · 11/02/2008 10:42

nutty, i hate it too

am 35 weeks pg so can't physically go far (can't drive) so that means park is out, our garden is really unsafe so they can't play in it. And DP has LOTS of extra work this week whch means that we can't be driven anywhere either

However, i do like not having to rush round in a morning especially as morning sickness seems to have returned

nutcracker · 11/02/2008 10:42

Erm there feet are 10, 13/1 and a 2/3... i think.

The library is a bus ride away unfortunatly, plus we did that on Saturday anyway.

Within walking distance there is not alot basically. They do all have bikes yep and I do take them round the estate on them now and again, but they can only really ride round in a circle LOL.

Swimming is out at the mo because the local pool is still shut.

We do have a local play area but it is normally full of glass and dog shit.

and wearing them out with lots of exercise essential as they then go to bed earlier thankg the lord

OrmIrian · 11/02/2008 10:43

Do you have any walls (in or out) that are due to be repainted? Let them loose with paint, brushes, hands, spray paint. We did that with the garden wall adjoining the next house. It was fantastic and looked quite good.

nutcracker · 11/02/2008 10:45

Can only get to park by bus.

Ormirian, that sounds brilliant, only problem is we have no sleeping bags and no carpet on the stairs so it might be a bit rough lol.

Can walk to play area, but not the park no, tis a bus ride away, not majorly far for me but too far for ds really.

I can't let them ride there on their bikes either as only one of them has a bike helmet and ds still doesn't realise he has brakes

wash the lego outside in a sunny spot?
wash the bikes?
or scooters?
Water bombs early evening outside just before putting them in a warm bath.
Food colouring in the bath with whisks and cups.
Movie night, drink wine and fall asleep while they watch a movie and eat pringles.

nutcracker · 11/02/2008 10:58

Yep we saw those when we went on Saturday, but the list for the witch thing was full, and ds is too young for the horrid henry thing (cue lots of screaming from him).

Plus as I said, it costs me £6 to get to the library and back.

They did do a coupl of those workshops in the summer hols but if I can't afford the bus fare that week it is a no go.

Get them to make pizzas
Pitta breads
tom paste
grated cheese
tuna
ham
whatever you like really

This might kill an hour and then you can all eat them afterwards

Water is always good - lots of tubs, buckets and any old pots etc plus mat on floor!! (or outside if not too cold)

Or what about putting on a dvd and closing the curtains like being at the moveies? Have a few treats too of they have been good

Hope you are ok nutty

the guardian has a comic in it everyday this week... you get a paper for you and stuff in the comic for the kids to do at home, there is a competition too, it is also online, but some of the ideas have things to cut out... but I am sure there are loads of websites with ideas for you to try at home?

I live in the middle of nowehre so travelling with my 2 can be hard work...are any of their friends available? could you invite some over one day?

I love not having them at school... might not say that in a few years time when they are older!
