Should the other parent jump in, albeit in agreement, to help discipline

I'm sure I read somewhere that if one parent is disciplining the child over something minor, or telling them not to do something minor, then the other parent shouldn't jump in to start telling them off too at the same time for the same reasons.

Does anyone know where I might have read that or can you direct my to some advice about it?

I'm searching but keep getting articles about parents disagreeing about how to discipline their child, in this case the parents are agreeing, but one is jumping in so the child is getting told off by two parents at once.

Thanks!

Just imagine being a child and being told off by two adults. Surely that’s enough. The second parent is also sending a message that they think the first parent can’t handle it on their own.

100% this.

This is exactly my feeling.

I'm hoping to find an article or or something about it to better explain this point of view to my partner. He feels that it's being supportive, showing a united front etc and that it would be worse to stand there silent. He doesn't quite understand my perspective.

Wish I could find which book I originally read it in!

If one parent is handling it there's absolutely no need for another parent to pile on top of the situation. I think the child may feel humiliated to be put down on all sides

It depends.

In our house if I'm telling one of the kids off and DH can "feel" im getting stressed, he will jump in and back me up...which is appreciated.

If I'm on top of it, he leaves me to it.

If the kids argue back with either of us, the other one will jump in to show a united front.

Depends on the age of the kids tbh. A 4 year old is different to a 10 year old in what I feel is required.

Maybe he’s getting confused with showing a United front on discipline
