What's a good night nappy?

DD's nearly 6 months. We're using size 1 Bimbles with a tots booster.

Anything more absorbent without being massively bulky?

I use Ellas House Bumhuggers - they are specifically a night time nappy really. They are hemp but completely fleece lined inside which is fab for night times. They take a while to dry so you'll need two or three just to be certain you'll have one for each night. The newer version has a pocket which you can stuff (unlikely you'll need to do so but it's there if you need it). They aren't particularly bulky IMO. I saw a thread on here with some for sale today and there are some new ones on eBay going cheap at £5.50 each. Beware though, being hemp, the new ones will need a fair bit of prewashing to get them up so a good absorbancy. Once they are there they are fab. I have used nothing else on my heavy night wetting DD since I discovered these. I also use them during the day sometimes as they are no more bulky than some of my day nappies.

At that age you can often get away with a normal day nappy during the night so you might also want to consider something bamboo and boost that up with microfibre or bamboo inserts. Is your tots booster a regular cotton booster? You'll find bamboo, microfibre and hemp more absorbant but not any thicker.

Little Lamb Bamboo nappies are nice. They are lovely and soft, take a while to dry (so again you might need 2 or 3), a little bit bulkier than normal bamboo day nappies but not very (more bulky than TB Bamboozle but much more absorbant IME). Quite often the size 1 will fit for longer than the stated 9 month limit.

I love the ellas house ones too, have always got mine 2nd hand so someone else has got them nice and absorbant first and i save a a few pennies to spend on other nappies(slight nappy addiction).

Bamboo quick flips for me - normally with a bamboo square underneath but that is because DS likes pooing 5 mins after putting the thing on, if he didn't I would boost with a microfibre cloth or two.

I liek the quick flips because they have 6 layers right up the front and back, rather than just the 2 layers and then extra where you place a folded booster - it gives you extra fabric/absorbency iyswim.

I love fluffles on dd3 at night, bit bulky but i found they are the only non leakers for us. I did have a lovely ellas house night nappy which i loved but i cant find it anywhere!

Thanks - I just ordered a bumhugger.

Any views on Baby Beehinds for night time?

I was really disappointed with Beehinds . They look so good in principle but they are no way a birth to potty nappy - far too small.

They are quite absorbant but I think you'll be far better off with a bumhugger - it is more adaptable as you can stuff the pocket with whatever you choose (or not at all) and it is fully fleece lined.

My little boy (now 11mo) has always been a very heavy wetter and I was struggling to find something that: 1) didn't have him waking up in the morning with pjyamas and 2) didn't cause his skin to "break down" in the creases of his legs because he was so damp. I'd tried Bamboozles and the Bambino bamboo nappy and neither were quite good enough. I'd thought of boosting them with something extra, but it looked so bulky & uncomfortable! ... Then I found Minki fleece pocket nappies! I put a bamboo prefold inside (padfolded) - I've got some from Nappy Nation, I think. And he can go all night (about 10 hours) and the nappy is still not totally soaked, and his skin is lovely and dry! I just love Minki nappies! The Slinki Minki ones are a lot less bulky compared to the standard ones, but neither are that bad. Provided you don't have any problem with fleece sensitivity, I think they're great!

Old-style Bumhuggers are def no good for heavywetting boys - v little absorbency at the front. Haven't tried the stuffable version though.

I've got one (aged 3) and he is fine at nights in a terry Popolini Ultrafit with its booster, an extra hemp booster and a Rikki wrap.
A decent one-size nappy (ie not MEOS) will always be there for you and the Ultrafit comes with its own fab cotton booster. DS has been in them since he was born (a little clownish at first LOL).

Quick-flips get my vote too. Very absorbant but dry quite quickly cos they 'unfold' completely.

ChirpyGirl · 12/02/2008 22:10

I use fluffles days and night but boost with bamboo boosters, not too bulky and they are still a bit dry in teh morning. DD1 (2) has 3, dd2 (4 months) has 1!
