Anyone used Motherease Dry?

I'm choosing some real nappies to try out on (as yet unborn) baby. Motherease ones seem popular. I've got a couple of their cotton ones, but it is also worth trying the 'Motherease Dry' (with the polyester lininig)? Anyone had any experience with them? Do they really keep baby dryer? Is it a problem having polyester rather than cotton next to the skin?

yes they're excellent. were one of my fave nappies with ds1.
definitely not a problem having polyester next to the skin. cotton will always feel wet, whereas polyester like in the MEOS or a fleece liner will keep the skin much drier

i use them but putting a fleece liner in other nappies works just as well. mothease one size can be rather large and bulky on a newborn i find they only give a good fit around 10lbs, but are a good nappy as are many others

I'm not a big fan of meos personally, I don't find them absorbent enough on older babies. I agree that a fleece liner works just as well

really flame? I used them on ds1 until he was potty trained. even at night.
maybe he ust wasn't a very heavy wetter

Flamesparrow · 11/02/2008 21:24

Maybe mine were both just very heavy wetters I know other people have said to me too. DS I gave up on because I was using fleece or wool wraps full time, and his trousers were soggy after about an hour

jetgirl · 11/02/2008 21:31

I use the dry ones and they seem to work really well. DS is 12 weeks and I find that they're not too bulky on him either.

hairycaterpillar · 11/02/2008 21:34

I used them for all three of mine, although for ds2 indulged in some bamboo napppies as well.

I only used the stay dry lined boosters though as much cheaper option than buying both parts stay dry. I now in hindsight would not have bought the stay dry ones but just used fleece liners more with the ordinary MEOS...actually I now think there are better options than MEOS so probably (even though I got on fine with them) I would go for something else more "interesting".

grannyslippers · 11/02/2008 21:48

Yes my entire set are stay-dry. I have about 15 snap in boosters (also dry-lined, so to speak) which I use all the time on 2.5 yr old. I think the booster is pretty well essential for older babies, I think of it more as a removable booster to reduce bulk for smaller babies.

I use fleece liners over the top but main advantage is that the polyester side doesn't stain!

Noticed in the new Earthlets catalogue there is a bamboo MEOS now!

hairycaterpillar · 11/02/2008 21:52

oh my polyester lining stains sometimes Does come out after a few washes or if hung out in the sunshine.

Flamesparrow · 11/02/2008 22:15

The bamboo ones feel loooooooooovely and silky

SnappyLaGore · 11/02/2008 22:19

oh the bamboo are WAY better than the cotton.

i never have gotten on with the cotton, but the bamboo are part of my 2yo heavy wetters night nappy combo...

ansd the bamboo stay reeeeally soft and silky too

SnappyLaGore · 11/02/2008 22:23

if you are buying motherease, you MUST get the bamboo ones, they are so much more absorbent... look, you can get them here!!

BigBadMouse · 11/02/2008 22:41

Yes if you really want MEOS I would agree to go with the bamboo and just use fleece liners. The bamboo doesn;t take that much longer than the cotton ones to dry but stays much softer.

I'm with Flame on this one though - found them very unabsorbant for an older child and actually not a very good fit for my DD (she is tall and thin). The bits at the front past the poppers stuck out which was really irritating and I think DD found that uncomfortable as it pressed against her tum when she had jeans on . The Motherease wraps are a different story - absolutely fab!

When I send trial kits out to parents with older babies, more often than not the parents find the motherease not absorabnt enough . Definitely much better things on the market for that money (and less) IMO.

Flamesparrow · 12/02/2008 08:20

People have heard of MEOS and want to try them, I always find it really weird because I put them in my starter kits knowing people know and trust them, but from a personal pov I'm not keen.

vickyy · 12/02/2008 15:24

Dare I ask which are better than the motherease (or is there another thread that does that)? Any that have a good combination of absorbancy plus keeping baby not too wet?

I see the point about the fleece liners, but DH prefers the idea of just chucking the worst of the number 2's straight down the toilet...

Different nappies suit different babies, even within the same family.
I didn't find MEOS good for my two heavy wetting boys. Plus I needed a bigger size. 'One Size'? No, not for bigger children.

I did use some fleece liners with ds1 but ds2 got sweat rashes from them and his skin was better just next to the cotton nappy.

I much prefer paper liners to just chuck in the loo.

I think Motherease were the best for a long time - when there weren't many other makes around. The past 3 or 4 years there have been sooo many other kinds coming on to the market and all trying to improve their nappies all the time, maybe motherease just got complacent and are now just living on an outdated reputation?

BigBadMouse · 12/02/2008 17:43

BUMBLES BUMBLES BUMBLES BUMBLES

These are fab nappies - have quite a following but you don't realise that until you get talking to other cloth users!

They are great value for money, well made, quick drying, give a really adaptable fit, fully fleece lined so your baby;s bottom stays lovely and dry. They have a pocket you can stuff to increase absorbancy overnight or when they are older. They work really well over the Motherease Wraps. I really recommend them and I have tried pretty much everything.

They also do a bamboo version for real luxury
