What do parents do with children after school

This is probably a stupid question but our local school does not have an after school club. There is one childminder locally who does pick ups from the school. She is fully booked for the foreseeable. What are the other options - after school nanny? Am I missing something?

Have you asked school? It’s very unusual for a school to have no options for after school care even if they don’t run one themselves.

My school doesn't have an after school club either. It's a 3 formed primary school so it's pretty shocking.

We have snack and chat you pay £1 and it finishes at 16.15. So I can relate to OP..... I work within school hours during week days!.

Where we are there's afew childminders but they are fairly full as they are seen as a more preferable option, cheaper to start with and nicer than a school setting.

Where we live the "primary" provision is divided into 3 separate schools 2 smaller feeder infants and a juniors.

One of the infants used to have wraparound club but it was provided by an external provider and after COVID it stopped as so many people work from home and can do school runs themselves. It wasn't viable.

My eldest will go to the junior school this September and they have sent a letter out to prospective parents who've been to the new starters events and asked if people would use the wraparound provision and if so, on which days.

The juniors have had a low uptake on the club apparently it's £8 before school and £12 after school (proves set by external provider) and my childminder is £13 a day before and after. My friend was using it but now has a Childminder's space. She said that some days there was only 8-9 children so I can't see financially how that would work.

Not at our local schools not enough demand after Covid so they all shut

Sometimes other schools in the area have afterschool clubs. Ours even picked up.

I did go part time for 3 days but my daughter loved going to ASC and would prefer to go there - especially if I still had work to do it.

Another thing we do is my partner works 4 days in the week and a Saturday and then I work 4 days in the week so we only have to juggle 3 days of childminders provision which is easier and cheaper!

Thanks all for the ideas!
