AIBU to tell off kids in the playground

I regularly take my 2.5 year old to the local playground. It's a lovely playground that has recently been completely renovated. There is an under 8 year old section and an over 8 year old section. Unfortunately, the over 8 year old section is still under construction.
Today in the playground, 2 older girls were running through a piece of equipment and I could see that some of the small children (including my 2.5 year old) were intimidated. She actually ended up falling off as one of the older girls ran past her.
I asked the girls how old they were and they were both over 8.
AIBU to ask them to not play on the little children's equipment while they are on there?
I also ended up asking some boys to leave (who were around 8 or 9) because they were playing with black plastic rifle guns. I told them it was inappropriate to play with these in this playground.
AIBU????

I don’t think YWBU but people these days don’t take kindly to their little darlings being told off. I’ve seen posts where people have had a mouthful off parents who don’t want to actually parent their child, but don’t want others to say anything to them either as they throw rocks/smear cake/snap branches or whatever.
Tbf you didn’t tell them off, you just asked them.

I have said in the past such things as "be careful around the little ones please" or "play carefully because this area is for the little ones" and "if you are going to kick a ball around can you please go over there because little ones are playing here".
9 times out of 10 they say "ok".
It's not telling them off - just asking them.

It's fine. If the girls caused your child to fall, they should expect to be told off.

You can ask the over 8s not to play on the equipment meant for the toddlers, that's fair enough.

But I don't see how you can justify telling boys to leave a play area because you didn't approve of their toy guns! They weren't bothering you.

Mind your own business and concentrate on your own PFB.

Sorry but if your child's 2.5 and fell because someone ran past her you should supervise her more closely. The children were playing harmlessly in the playground.

7 year olds could be running round as quickly as those children, easily. You didn't even know they were over 8 until you asked.
