4 year old was sick for 2 days, absolutely fine yesterday and sick again today. Should I be worried?

Both my boys were vomiting on Saturday, the youngest only had one episode and has been fine since. Reduced appetite.

Oldest (he is 4) was sick on Sunday too, then fine on Monday. Reduced appetite but generally fine. Today he went to his nana's, we picked him up and he fell asleep in the car. Took him to his room, he woke up and about 15 minutes later projectile vomit again. I haven't seen a GP as I thought it's a stomach bug. Would you be concerned given there was a day of nothing and now vomiting again?

I'm an anxious parents I should say.

I find that my two can be very up and down with these bugs.
They seem like they are getting better then it starts up again. So I wouldn't worry too much just now. Keep them hydrated, fed if they want to eat and calpol if they need it.

But if something doesn't feel right to you then definitely phone your gp.
I hope they are feeling better soon Flowers

I wouldn't worry at this point. My DD had a stomach bug last year and was sick on (I think) Wednesday and Thursday, then totally fine, then randomly sick once more on Monday. Then she was fine.

Ok, thank you. This is reassuring. Sorry just over here worried thinking, what's going on.

I think it sounds like the bug is just lingering a bit. That's why nurseries usually say you can't take them in until 48 hours after the last bout of vomiting or diarrhoea. If it's not constant and they're managing to keep water down and even eating a little bit I'd monitor how they are in themselves and hopefully you are at the tail end of it now.

I sympathise because I'm very anxious around these things too.

@Badger1975 thank you. He woke up very weak this morning, woke up twice in the night and drank more than a pint of water. He's eaten a large bowl of porridge and has gone back to sleep (this never happens). My poor babe.

Aww poor thing. Sounds like a virus that's really taken it out of him. Hopefully he'll keep the porridge down and start to perk up.

Both mine have had a stomach bug recently that lasted on & off for almost ten days. They'd have a couple of days of D&V, then it would stop for 2/3 days, and then start up again for a few more days. My youngest DC had it first and I took her to the Dr on around day 9 and they did a stool sample which came back negative so I just let it run it's course with my eldest when he then had it the following week. They both basically lived on toast & rice cakes for 10 days. Both fine now (although absolutely ravenous!!)

WeWereInParis · 01/03/2023 10:09

@RedxRobin did you catch it? My youngest started throwing up this morning and I always stress about catching it and having to look after a vomiting child while vomiting myself. But it's not happened yet!

RedxRobin · 01/03/2023 10:28

@WeWereInParis weirdly no! Both DH and I were fine although felt slightly nauseous and I had a slightly dodgy tummy one day. I asked nursery and no-one there had it as bad as they did either so no idea what they had!

@RedxRobin thanks for sharing. I'm the same, dodgy belly and having to go to the loo but no actual sickness. Makes me think my immune system is probably just that little bit stronger.
