Depends on the child, IME best to have the potty about the house from quite young (maybe just over a year) so they are really used to it and therefore not frightened when the time comes. Each child is different so it really depends on the individual.

IME just leave the potty around the house, give LO plenty of time with nappy off and just let them teach themselves

I have started to put my DD (16mo) on the loo before showers and have brought out the potty for when she is running free.
We started a while back with it all, she can now say peepee and knows the noise, through the wall, when DH goes. And has seen me go.

Whenever I sit her on, I say peepee, so does she. Then I ask her if she has any and she says no peepee.
In the past few days she has sat on the potty, herself saying peepee. Not sure that she understands yet that she does them, haven't caught her in the act, only after she has peed on the carpet. By that point I say very little.
How am I doin?

Had it around dd1 at about 18mo but she wasn't really ready. Started in earnest at about 2yrs 2mo and she did brilliantly. took a week off work and had it sorted within that week.

hoping dd2 is as easy
