4 month old has a chest infection

My 4 month old has a chest infection, and has been coughing since the last 2-3 days. He got a fever today, I took him to the doctors who listened to his chest and told me that he has a chest infection. They prescribed antibiotics even though he’s so young. I’m stressing so much, I’m keeping him as warm as possible, taking care of him as best as I can but I’m still so scared that it might turn into pneumonia. Last week, we painted the house and we used oil based paint. Could this be the reason why he’s been coughing so much? Because even though we’ve been keeping the doors and windows open, there’s still a faint smell of paint. Also me and DH have been feeling a bit weird too like we’re about to get a sore throat. What should we do? I’m so worried and upset :( FTM as you can probably tell

If he has a temperature please don’t ’keep him as warm as possible’! How hot is he? Do you have a thermometer? Please don’t stress this is quite common and the antibiotics will kick in very quickly. No it won’t be the paint! Is he breast or formula fed?

His temperature was 38 an hour ago, he seems a little better now but I don’t know. I’m just scared he will get pneumonia. Is it common in babies that are so young? He’s breastfed

Pneumonia isn't common no. BF him often, you'll be passing white blood cells through your milk which will help him to recover.

Agree that you shouldn't keep him as warm as possible with a temperature.

Have a read of this on high temperatures in babies and children.

Does the temperature come down with Calpol?

Aw honestly it’s totally normal. When did he start his anti biotics? My DD started some yesterday morning and feeling bit better by now (but she’s 10
months). As you know they can go downhill v quickly so good to keep an eye, but also very important to calm down.

Calpol and neurofen. 111 if necessary - they alllllways get ill for a weekend!

Not common, but brush up on the symptoms in babies just in case. Add in some extra breastfeeds if you can to keep him hydrated. It’s very scary the first few times they get ill but give it a year or two and this will all be second nature, trust me ☕️ 🍫 people always used to tell me to ‘trust my instincts’ but I was such a panicker I never knew what was instincts and what was panic if you know what I mean? But as a rule of thumb if they’re feeding normally, have wet nappies, temperature is under 40 and no rashes/sucking in rib cage when breathing/blue nails or lips, they’re probably fine xx
