Potty training - how do you do it?!

I'm hoping to potty train my daughter who is 3 next month.

The issue is, I'm so unsure how to do it. How can I explain to her that she needs to wee/poo in a potty/toilet now instead of her nappy? Do you use a potty or go straight to the toilet? Do I need to keep her naked from the waist down in the house for a few days to begin with or can I put her in pants straightaway? Even when she's got the hang of it does she need to wear nappies overnight? Do I need to take a potty with me when we go out in case she needs to wee before we can reach a toilet?

I'm feeling so confused by it all and would really appreciate some guidance - thank you!

We did Ds straight onto toilet with little toilet seat and step. I bought one for upstairs and downstairs.

Potty would have been a disaster as I think he would have knocked it over and time to clean etc. plus nursery go straight to toilets and it’s easier out and about as just hold over normal toilet.

Did at 2 years, 2 months, bribed with chocolate for every wee or poo.

The babybjorn toilet seats are pricier are but really good at not wobbling as can adjust at the back ( and higher at the front for boys). Ds still uses almost a year on and I think many use the seats until 4+ so they don’t worry about falling in, so it’s worth getting something decent

We started potty training today and it’s been a total disaster. She insisted on wearing her new “grown up” pants when we were getting dressed, which she chose herself and was really excited about - but then wet herself in the lounge before I managed to get her to the potty. She got quite upset by the fact she was all wet and after I cleaned her up, she refused to sit on the potty at all, before she wet herself again an hour or so later and again got really upset by it. I even tried to bribe her to sit on the potty but whilst she seemed half tempted, it didn’t work. She’s now back in her nappy because she was quite distressed and I didn’t know what else to do. I feel like I’ve failed her.

No honestly don’t feel like that. I tried and failed to potty train my daughter twice before she was ready. She turned 3 at the end of feb and that was literally the first time she entertained the thought of sitting on the potty.
before that it was, frankly, distressing for her and I felt the best thing to do was put her back in the nappy and wait. You’ve done the right thing, you’re a great mum x
