What do you give your young children for a snack lunch/tea?

I find it gets soo repetitive!

5yo is very fussy, it's usually ham or cheese sandwiches for her with fruit and a yoghurt. She used to love Tuna but unfortunately went off it.She isn't keen on crisps but will sometimes have afew Mini Cheddars. She eats cucumber at school but won't touch one vegetable at home. She likes egg on toast but we use this as a meal as her hot meals at home are also limited.

1yo usually has similar, or sometimes peanut butter or soft cheese on toast. And baby crisps.Sometimes offer tomato or cucumber but it doesn't get eaten, then fruit and a yoghurt or baby biscuit.I would do a tuna sandwich but she doesn't seem keen, and I've tried scrambled/fried egg on toast but she didn't like that.

What do your young children eat for a snack lunch/tea? Would love some more ideas as it's so samey for them at the moment!

1 year old often has leftovers from dinner the night before for lunch. If not:

  • toast with hummus
  • pasta with a quick tomato sauce
  • wrap pizza
  • sandwiches with cheese, soft cheese, ham, tuna, egg mayo, tinned salmon or sliced chicken. Sometimes toasted sandwiches
  • crackers with ham/cheese
  • pizza pinwheels
  • beans or scrambled egg on toast
  • fish fingers with baked beans

For veg- she isn't very good with cucumber or tomato but I still offer it sometimes. She is better with cooked veg so I will do a small amount of frozen peas/green beans/sweetcorn or spinach (her fav).

She normally has fruit as snacks but if she hasn't I will give it with lunch.

Thanks everyone- some really good ideas here that I hadn't thought of and have noted down! 😀

I have one fussy eater that will only eat chicken mcnuggets, fries, and mountain dew every day. I've tried other foods, but they refuse to touch anything else. You'd think they would get tired of it after months, but not this one! How can I get my kid to try new things?

CoalCraft · 28/02/2023 09:32

Popular lunches with mine are...

Mash potato and beans
Scrambled egg on toast
Chicken in a bread roll
Chicken wraps
Jacket potato (various toppings)

With fruit for afters if she's still have hungry.

She tends not to like veg as is - not fussed on raw cucumber stick, etc. - so we tend to mix it into her dinners. She'll eat vegetable rice, veg spring rolls, lumpy tomato sauce, etc.

Are you for real?? If this is true you need to visit a dietician fast.

SerBilly · 28/02/2023 20:09

Omg! Really? Why tho? It has everything from the food pyramid with the meat, grains, veggies, sugars and oils. And they like chocolate milk too so that covers dairy. Am I missing something?

Lilywc · 29/03/2023 20:24

Hummus
most kids love it
