Seven month old still in moses basket

He cried in the Next to Me, which we've had since he was born, this continued and Moses Basket was much better. He's now seven months though and far more active. He's never knocked basket over yet but it's probably a matter of time. We have a big cot but it seems huge for such a little boy.

He's not six months corrected. We could try the next to me again, but how long would it be effective?

He'll be in our room until we find a new flat, which I like as I love having him there for night wake ups

Big cot would fit in but we'd have to move our wardrobe and inch round it and it's huge and he's so small.

See if you can get a smaller cot second hand. Obviously you would need to buy a new mattress.

PuttingDownRoots · 24/02/2023 21:26

Have you got or will you need a travel cot?
If he finds the moses comfy you can just put the moses basket in it.

Space saver cot? My son was in one of these till 14 months when we moved house. We had the Asda rafferty compact cot.

Ah yes, we have a travel cot. We took it to.see family in January and he cried so much he ended up in the pram bassinet but with the Moses basket inside it might work

Smaller second hand or spacesaver both sound ok too. I think he likes that he can look up from the Moses and see us. Sometimes I wake and he's looking up at us

I would start by putting the Moses basket inside your normal cot as at least he isn't going to knock it over! He will slowly adapt.

Nimbostratus100 · 24/02/2023 21:35

can you put the moses basket in the cot?

3luckystars · 24/02/2023 21:35

Put the Moses basket into the cot until he gets used to it.

theotherfossilsister · 24/02/2023 21:52

I could yes, I think he won't like the bars if they obscure his view as he likes to check up on us and make sure we've not disappeared

It's really unsafe to still be in a Moses basket. Surely he is sitting up and rolling by now?

You have got to put the basket in the cot at the very least, whether he like it or not. He will get used to it and will at least be safe.

worried4698643 · 24/02/2023 22:08

Also, from memory the next to me is max age 6 months (although double check this as I could be wrong)

It seems pointlessly distressing to move to N2M then have to transition again to a cot.

Ikea do very reasonable priced smaller cots which may be an option. Often available on selling sites.

WaddleAway · 24/02/2023 22:09

DD1 was like this, she was in it far longer than she should have been because she literally wouldn’t sleep anywhere else! As in she’d stay awake the entire night. I ended up cutting the Moses basket up so that I wasn’t tempted to put her back in it in the middle of the night when she had been awake in her cot for 8 hours solid 😂. I’m laughing about it now as it was 9 years ago but I remember it being so stressful so I sympathise! Honestly the only solution was to persevere with the cot.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 24/02/2023 22:14

Put him in the cot, after a few nights he'll get used to it....

theotherfossilsister · 24/02/2023 22:46

Thank you. It is starting to feel unsafe.

Maybe a space saver cot. We have a stunning sleigh bed but it's so big.

A cot isn’t big. It’s designed for a 7 month old to use. It’s supposed to be that size so the can crawl and move around safely.

By 18 months mine could climb out the cot by literally pulling himself up and over, so you won’t get much time from it at this rate. We took the side off and he’s been using it as toddler bed the last year or so

EJRB · 25/02/2023 16:02

We still have our 17mo in our room. He’s in his big cot and has been since 6.5 months. We have it placed so that he can see us from between the bars

or, get a cot bed take one side off and put it up against your side of the bed. You’re effectively cosleeping but he’s safe in the cot

FlounderingFruitcake · 25/02/2023 16:17

If you’re getting the sense it’s unsafe then trust your instincts and move him now, before he tips himself out. I also really wouldn’t like the idea of them rolling into a solid side and would want something breathable. The travel cot is fine if you don’t want to rearrange all the furniture given you’re planning on moving soon but there’s no such thing as too small for the big cot; they’re suitable from newborn and are the only really appropriate bed choice for a 6/7 month old except maybe safely cosleeping.

theotherfossilsister · 26/02/2023 21:52

Thank you

I think we'll have to go for the big cot, we've not put our flat on the market yet so not sure how long it will take to move. I just feel like he'll be lonely in there which is silly as he'll have us in with him from ten onwards

Millions of babies all over the world sleep in cots OP. It’s normal!

theotherfossilsister · 04/03/2023 11:55

For the past four nights he's cried until dp goes through to the sofa, then we safely co sleep, although actually it's not safe because he was born weighing 1.6k, and he is not exclusively breastfed. Going to work really hard to get him into cot as terrified of SIDS.

He laughs when do gathers up his pillows, a big laugh like 'I won'
