A Review is needed for Parental leave/ Pay and access to affordable childcare

I am a mum of two (to a 6-year-old & 7-month-old) and aim to create generation wealth for my two princes'.
However, life comes with barriers and three in particular that maybe relatable to others is identifying affordable childcare, the impact of taking parental leave and not receiving parental pay.
Therefore, I have started a petition to aim to have the following reviewed by the UK Government. Petition Link
Access to affordable childcare - for there to be additional childcare options that are affordable such as state-run provisions to support parents to go back to work.
Parental leave and pay- a review of parental leave & pay as parental leave is currently unpaid. Even if a parent takes leave to look after their child's welfare and abides to the law that outlines children under the age of 12, are not mature enough to be left at home for long periods. Parents are expected to do this without pay!
Parents are expected to pay nursery fees when their child has a contagious illness e.g., chicken pox! As a result, may have to take parental leave or annual leave to be at home nurturing their child due to not having additional childcare support.
It can at times feel like a losing battle when trying to sustain financial and build a future for your family, especially in light of the cost-of-living crisis.
Please sign, share and or re post my petition if you agree or know of a family member, friend, or a Neighbour that may benefit if changes were made. It takes a community :)

Why would you not expect to pay nursery fees when a child is ill? They don't stop having costs and not can they use that place while you aren't using it.

Regarding parental leave, it is unpaid because you aren't working. Are you wanting companies to be obliged to pay staff who are on parental leave or are you wanting the government to step in on this?

While I don't necessarily disagree that childcare options should be higher quality and cheaper, I don't think either of those are reasonable to expect.

Do you want everyone else in society to pay more so that you can create “generational wealth” for your princes children?

You've got this wrong, very wrong.

The ability to create generational wealth is at odds with the need for affordable childcare. Can't see how you can 'create' one of you have a need for the other.

This! And why should you be paid if you are not at work? In what other situation would you also expect to be paid to have a day off? Food shopping? Trip to the beach? Visit to Granny?

You are being ridiculous.

I would like to confirm for those who decided to assume. I am in full time employment
and returned from maternity leave early. My personal aim is to create generational wealth. Where as the petition is for the government to review parental leave/ as it is unpaid. (Please see attachments on parental leave/pay or .gov.Uk to gain full clarity on what I am referring to)
In regards to children being off unwell with something contagious whilst in private nursery. I agree their place is being secured however, still having to pay and then not getting paid from your employer is something the government could look at reviewing to prevent parents from either relying on the benefit system and or facing hardship when trying to ultimately look after their children. I am not suggesting it should fall on business owners.
Nevertheless, it’s all a matter of opinion. have a good day!

OP

the only way parental leave would be universally paid is if employers could reclaim, probably on the same sort of basis as SMP after the first 6 weeks.

Nursery workers still need paying if you unexpectedly take your child out of nursery due to sickness.
