Possible silly question but...

Do sleep trained babies/young toddlers still wake (and need some help settling back) if teething or coughing? As in, once given some water or calpol etc would they just go back to sleep with no other help? Ds sleeps ok if not teething or ill but he is often teething or ill...When that happens, he can sometimes get himself back to sleep after a drink of water etc but other times it can be an hour or more trying to get him back to sleep with rubbing his back or rocking.
Just wondering if when he is better we should try something different.

My DC woke up in pain due to teeth last night. After administering capol was back asleep in less than s minute.

So yes, to answer your Q.

Yes is the short answer.

The longer answer though is that if they wake we know that there is something 'wrong' so can eliminate a lot of other interventions.

Yeah, they wake up and tell you if they need something (even if that thing is a hug), and stay awake if they’re still in pain or unhappy or whatever.

What it (mostly, hopefully!), stops is the ‘waking up every 90mins because that’s just what I do’ stuff.

Usually yes. My DC were sleep trained and are now 9 and 4 (DD at 14mo and DS at 9mo). If they wake up in the night and need something, they go back to sleep straight after, whether it's medicine or some reassurance after a bad dream or something.

If they're really upset or poorly, they can come into our bed but on the proviso that they go back to sleep and don't lay there chatting! That happens maybe a couple of times a year each. Otherwise they just roll over and fall asleep again, and have done since sleep training.

Yeah that's pretty normal. They are only little.
