At what age can kids go to dentist on their own?

Dd 15 has an appointment this week for check up, dentist is 10 min walk from her school, but about 45 min drive from my work. DH thinks we should send her on her own. I’m not sure… but really could do without taking time off. Dh has Covid atm, so can’t really send him..

As per the reply from your dentist, I had to sign the paperwork until they turned 16.
I seem to remember at one point them getting there and me rocking up at the end to sign, but an adult has to be there with them for that part, IME.

I still had to sign the forms for my 16 year old last time they went (I was surprised), I think they said until 18.

I'm a dental nurse it's fine for them to come alone at 15 and i used to go regularly as a teenager alone straight from school when my parents were at work. Obviously any big issues would require parental input.

I am shocked by the condescending posts. I too as shocked to find at our dentist they had to be 16 to go alone. Couldn't believe it, seemed silly.

Do you not need to sign the NHS forms at the end so the dentist gets paid? Or is it private so dc can pay?

watcherintherye · 20/02/2023 17:14

Our NHS dentist required a parent to accompany under 16s to the practice. They could go in to see the dentist on their own, if they wanted. Think mine did from about secondary school age.

Call the dentist. Ask for their policy about unaccompanied minors.

I would not send her on her own, fwiw.

Dentist just replied, she will need an adult with her. Over 16 can go independently.

Yes,that's how it is for our dentist too. Was really surprised reading the initial responses.

whatadaythatwas · 20/02/2023 18:15

Ridiculous! She can consent to medical treatment and not have it disclosed to her parents in other medical settings, for thing's more invasive than a filling or extraction.

Truckinghell · 20/02/2023 18:17

Yes.

Oh this stupid website, that was to 'would you say the same to the doctor'.
